Default Went from MACs to Jet Hots

Adding my experience to the forum. I have only ever had mid length headers on my cars. I always felt they were great based on price, installation, and clearance.
Well I got a deal on some coated Jet Hot long tubes that I couldn't pass up. So I did the swap. Clearance is worse than before, but not bad at all and I have the Eibach pro-kit.
Let me say I will never go back to mids again. The LT's rule in every aspect over the MACs. The difference is unreal. I know it's supposed to move the torque curve up in the RPM range, which I'm sure it did. But it must be making more down low anyway. Add to the fact that I have a ton of bolt ons and a mild cam, I was very happy. New track times coming next week.

So when anyone asks what headers they should get, I will probably not support mids anymore.

unfortunately no before dyno times. It dyno'd 317 with stock cam, no headers, but no cats.
I am going to try to dyno this Saturday. It's first come first serve at the local dyno. I am expecting 370-375 with the ls1 intake.
Previous track times are 12.33 @ 114 in 2500 DA. Also planning to go to the track this coming Wednesday. I expect better times in worse conditions.

were there any clearance problems anywhere, like the kmember? or has jet hot already taken care of that issue? thanks!

I did the same swap a year ago, gained 2.5 mph! The sound improvement alone was worth the swap, though. Mac rasp.

Now I'm getting rid of the Jet-Hots and trying out the stepped Edelbrock headers.

Nope. These slid right in no problem. I didn't even have to take off the oil filter bracket.
My macs had a resonator to take out the rasp, but still the LT's sound better.

I like my mac's too, but I've been told that I can get more power with longtubes...
that's the reason I want to change them...

currently I'm pushing 405 RWHP w/ Cam, mac's, ORY, pulley and borla

I gain 23 RWHP when I install my Mac's..(this is before cam).
..and I've read that the QTP's can with you around 40-46 more ponies...that's almost double that my Mac's gave me.

I wouldn't mind paying for the QTP's if they can give my another 20-25 more ponies...

Headers have made 40 RWHP a few times, but dont expect that.
Normally the only time you will see 40+ from a header install is when you have a 98 or 99 car with those POS exhaust manifolds, have everyother bolton in place and probally a cam installed.
Then you realize your motor needs to breath more and install a part that should have already been there.
Or when you for some stupid reason do a H/C swap before headers.
Add headers and there you go a huge difference.
WOW go figure.

Most people see very small gains from mid's to LT's.
Normally 3-10 but not much more.

From the dyno in the Exhaust FAQ it's about 10rwhp under the curve, with the difference falling off towards the top end.

2mph at the track is significant though... ...but not significant enough for me to re-invest in exhaust (again).

...unless someone wants to buy a real nice set of JetHot coated Macs, haha. No, really, I like mine a lot, got them used for a steal and recently had them coated and reinstalled.

374/375 on Saturday. Very consistent with other local guys dyno pulls with same set up. I was expecting 370-375.

WS-Sick and I raced from 60 to about 130 in 6th and we were DEAD even the entire time. At the time he had pacesetters w/ cutout no cats and i had macs no cats w/ loudmouth. I see no reason to change out headers. Also with the rasp...If it annoys you that much then maybe you shouldnt constantly be shifting at 2700-3000 rpms. You would just be wasting gas. The only time it should annoy you is if you begin to race and the instant you punch it for the first time you'll hear it and thats it.
