Default NEW bang for buck header!

The hedman LS1 headers at jegs are 200 bucks for a set. They are 1 5/8 primarys, stepped to 1 3/4. I think they might have ball collectors in the pics but i just cant tell. Say you put these up against edelbrocks, how much do you think you would lose on a cam only motor vs edelbrocks?

I'm not liking the 1-5/8" to 1-3/4"... I'd still go with the Pacesetter, or other brand

The smaller tubes might be better for a small-cam,
stock-RPM car than big 'uns. My Hedmans seemed
to be cheaply made on the SBC varieties. Still, will
have to check 'em out. But I'm really waiting for
some serious price erosion from the all-stainless
guys....

coatings will hold up to a point. i for one drive my car every day, regardless of the weather. while texas does not have the insane winters the north does(if I ever move back up to ny or anywhere near there i'll buy another car b4 i put my baby through a winter up north) she still sees some nasty weather. i like the idea of stainless steel, cuz even if you scratch stainless steel....stainless steel doesn't wear off

i would think that on a cam only car, the edelbrocks would outperform the hedmans by a lot. the edelbrocks are stepped from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8. im no expert, but i would assume the extra flow would help quite a bit. ill post up some cam only numbers with the edlebrocks in a couple of weeks.

Those headman headers are for street rods...they are block huggers...I bet they would be hard as hell to get them to fit an F-body...I'd stick with some Pacesetters, I REALLY liked the newly designed ones. They looked good.

these arent block hugger hedmans,
they are LS1 headers, made for the Fbody.

Do you guys think that a smaller primary header (1 5/8) would help with a torque increase in the lower rpm range as opposed to the larger primaries (1 7/8)? I've heard a lot of people saying they lost some low-range torque with the header install and just wondered if the smaller hedmans might remedy this at all.

No.....With a proper exhaust system behind 1 3/4 headers or even 1 7/8 you are not going to lose much if anything down low...... I have seen stock B16A2's pick up hp and torque from 1500rpms up running 1 3/4 headers to a 3 inch race pipe....27 inch primaries.....38 inch 3 inch pipe..... on a bascially stock 1.6 liter making 150 at the front wheels.......if done properly where you do not loose exhaust velocity/scavenging effect....then you will gain power almost everywhere.......
