Air Filter
You say you got the SLP CAI? Did you just get that or the whole flow-pac (SLP lid, smooth bellows, CAI, and filter?)

If you have to have an oil type filter then the Holley is better as it is a direct fit whereas the K&N requires an additional gasket.

But yes the dyno will not reflect that at all, in some cases cars have even dyno'd less with an oil/gauze type filter but what exactly a filter in a car standing still with a fan blowing on it's nose has to do with how said filter reacts out on the road/track at 40+mph is beyond me.
And over oiling is the fault/act of the oiler/owner/installer, not the filter/filter company.

some have seen gains and some (most) haven't...your mileage may vary. Yeah, I've also read a shootout on one of the forums (or maybe it was ws6.com) where they did a very good test on both the paper and K&N filters. First they dynod both, then they ran them both at the track. Made no difference. Of course, even if they did add 5hp you wouldn't see it at the track or even on the dyno more than likely.
At any rate, regardless of whose fault over oiling is (I agree it's the owners fault btw) it is still a very real problem. There is no way to put on the exact proper amount of oil. Too much and you can mess up the sensors, not enough and crap flows through the filter into the engine.
It's just not worth it in my opinion, even for 5-10hp (if they'd even deliver that much). Stick with a stock paper filter and save yourself some money and aggravation (unless you have a clear lid, in which case you should buy the Holley

Either way you gotta be careful but I agree that OEM style paper is probably safer and won't give the 10rwhp

It is just a personal preference, but so many newbs don't realize that over oiling these filters can wreak havoc. A lot of them think "if a little oil is good, a lot must be better". A friend of mine over oiled his K&N (and he's a car guy) and ended up having to do a lot of upper engine work because of it. Ever since his issue I decided to stick with the stock paper filter in my TA and have been extremely careful with the K&N in my Expy.Russell
Yeah you definitely gotta be careful with the oiling and gasket/sealing when using/cleaning/reoiling them.
