Default asp crank pulley owners inside-->

i just installed my asp crank pulley and i noticed that it doesnt go all the way in like the stock one. i tightened it like the instructions said and as a matter of fact i had my 280 dad tightened the hell out of it to the point that the pulley was turning a few mm with the bolt. i had the car in 5th to prevent it from turning alot. like i said, i can still see shiny metal from the crank pulley stick out. the car starts with no problem and the battery charges with no problem, all belts line up and so far no problems, but i just wanted to know if anyone here had the same issue? are asp crank pulleys a little different as far as the "shiny" metal part of the pulley goes??

What timing set are you running? If its a double roller (SLP) and its the old style ASP it needs to be machined to fit. The newer design has an SFI sticker on it and will work with the double roller chain.

Now if that is not your problem Look to see if all of the belt grooves line up. Mine has been on for a few weeks now and it "looked" like it was not all the way on because of the bare machined finish on the end of the pulley was not hidden all the way. Mine is fine. If everything lines up yours is too.

Wish I had someone that big to tighten LS1 Crank bolts for me lol

so yours isnt all the way in? my grooves are perfect and the belts are lined up perfectly. my concern is the finish not being hidden like the stock one. is this normal? i dont have a doulbe roller from slp so that isnt the problem.
so what you are saying is that as long as the belts line up then i am fine???

Mine is exactly like yours. Everything lines up perfectly, so I went ahead and drove the car. 15000 miles later and I have not had a single problem. I don't have a double roller either.

Its all the way in. It just looks that way compared to the stock balancer.
If everything is lined up and you turned it 120 degrees or 95 past 37 ftlbs. You are good.

A friend of mine did one when he did his cam this weekend, and the engine would not turn over after that. The pully was too tight and had to be removed. It needs to be machined down. It changed my mind about getting a pully.

this is a great mod! It gave me -1/10 and +1mph in the quarter! plus It revs quiker. Just buy the NEW pulley that has been revised and yo will not have to machine it!!

Well, I think when I installed mine, the pulley hub was not flush with the end of the crank, if thats what you mean. I installed it anyways and it's fine. No thrown belts at all and they line up great.

I just slid my new cam in today actually, and I was having the same thought with the shiny portion of the cam sticking out more than I remember. I have the ASP pully, and I put in the new roll master chain, but it's just a single... I have'nt started the car yet, have to put the LT's tomorrow... but I hope everythhing is in where it's supposed to be, the belts seem to line up,

Yes the non SFI pulley is the non "updated" pulley and it needs to be machined to clear a double roller chain.

It may only be with the SLP Double roller. Can you turn the motor? If so its probably fine.

either the new ASP SFI 25% u/d crank pully or you could look into the updated SLP with the deeper grooves.. both seem to be good pullies, but the ASP have been proven.. you know you could've just emailed me and asked....
