anybody sell cat stickers, like the ones on random tech. that are stickers on the outside that say random cats? or something close that may deter inspection guys from taking that extra look?

I doubt gutted cats net much power. It would probably amount to a big chamber that causes turbulence.

I was gona gut my stock cats. But later got LTs and truduals. The passenger side seemed like it would be easier to do but the driver side seemed to be more difficult. I seen a kit awhile ago with some flanges that bolts right up to the stock manifolds so that you can run no cats. I dont think its worth it for the price tho.

Now if you hollowed them out and you were crafty enough to fiberglass pack them and run a tube through the middle...that would be something.

Best bet is to get a long (>1 ft) drill bit, and chow out
some starting holes. Until you make some starter cracks
the ceramic is surprisingly tough. Once you riddle it with
holes though it busts up easily.

Some people say gutted cats make rasp. I found there
are several sharp edges where the tube lies inside the
flange that look like they have dog-whistle potential.
I dressed mine smooth with a burr and have no rasp,
just a nice exhaust note (through SLP CME which is a
pretty quiet exhaust). A little boomy at 2-3K which I
think may be the resonance of the cat-shells.

Gutted cats have roughly 1/2 the pressure drop@flow
of stock cats, worse than offroad tubes and better
than the RT high-flow (2.5") big-body cats.

I have looked at putting an inner pipe into them;
this looks difficult due to the bends. But getting a
pair of stainless tubes bent to jig, and MIGing on a
pair of cat-shells and the flanges, would be nice
and not-too-noticeable. Unless they use an IR
camera and know what they're doing.

I had my local shop just cut the flanges off of the cats and weld and bend some pipes to fit back in place. We dont have any type of inspections here though. The car does have a raspy sound now though. I have a flowmaster 80 2 chamber and the SLP Y pipe on the car with stock manifolds for the moment. I am thinking of doing Mac midlengths, ORY, and the GMMG cat back for the next system.

I've been working on doing something similar for a LTs and ORY set up...I've been looking at various cat converter screens (one set was from a Mustang actually ) and even found some cylindrical ducting from Home Depot that could possibly pass for cats if worked into place just the right way.
