Default QTP HVM LT's, QTP Dual Elect. Y-pipe, SLP 2OTL - First Driving Impressions

Let me start off by stating that I've had a few exhaust systems during the course of this car's lifespan.

Previous setups:
1st-SLP LT's and gutted cat SLP Y, Spintech catback with a cutout in the I (splitcase muffler didn't flow well).
2nd-SLP LT's, Custom 3" Mandrel Bent X-pipe dumped at the axle with Flowtech Afterburners (too loud).
3rd-Same SLP LT's, same X-pipe, but swapped in Magnaflow 4x9 Ovals instead of the Flowtech Afterburners (less loud).

New setup:
QTP HVM LT's, QTP Dual Cutout Y- with 4" Flowmaster Merge, SLP 2OTL catback.

Hands down, this is the best sounding setup I've had on my car yet. The X-pipe was sweet, the tone was high pitched at revs and deep at idle, very mechanical sounding- interesting in its own right.
But this Y pipe and SLP 2OTL sound in my mind, exactly what an F-bod exhaust should sound like- deep, mean and smooth. The sound pours on instead of shreeking like the X-pipe. The 2OTL is quiet at low revs, and intimdates at WOT.

With the cutouts open, all hell breaks loose, and you can make people in the lane next to you **** in fear (OK, I exaggerate, but it's much louder than I had imagined).

Torque down low has improved significantly- I don't know if it's due to the restriction of the catback, or if the QTP HVM LT's are doing their job- I'm hoping it's the High Velocity Merges working due to the $$$ I spent on them, hehe.

Next week, 90mm LSX and Dyno numbers.

how does the HVM compare to basic QTP LT's?...for 3-400 bucks (they had on that sale) is the extra power worth the money?...it seems like it might free up mayb 2-3 horses and mayb 2-3 ft-lbs if that...to the wheels...does that seem worth it?

And of course we need sound clips.

The dyno and track will tell if the collectors are worth the money. As for the butt-o-meter, it's registering an improvement.
The LT's on the HVM's are spliced together before reaching the collector (which also seems to be a bit smaller in diameter than the standard collector), instead of having 4 tubes dumping abrubtly into one collector.

02W6Bird, sound clips next week, I promise.

dug,
The old X-pipe's empty cats would resonate a high pitched, metallic rasp when lifting off the throttle betweern shifts. This setup has a similar off throttle rasp, but is much more subtle, muffled and deeper. I can't say there are any on-throttle unwanted noises with the new setup. It is very smooth. I don't know why more F-bod people (Camaro owners especially due to no bumper cutouts) use the 2OTL.

I don't know why either, it's a great cat back. My brother has it on his mostly stock (lotsa suspension mods though) Z28 and it sounds great.
Supposedly one of the best flowing 'mufflered' cat backs as well.

Yeah, I dont know why more people dont run a 1otl catback. For around $200 you can have a very quiet highflowing catback. The 3" ipipe is only $100 from summit and then pick a 3" straight through muffler from magnaflow, ultraflo, or borla.

The best thing about them is that theyre quiet when driving around town and plenty loud at wot.

Hmmmm...I'm starting to see a pattern here. People have a cat-back. People ditch cats, then hate rasp or performance. They get x-pipe, usually dumped. Switch mufflers around, get annoyed by the sound and interior resonance, go back to catback system (sometimes with or without cats). I'm hoping my over-the-axle duals takes care of this the first time to my satisfaction.

I just hate the look of single exit exhaust.

Why not try the SLP Dual/Dual, then? It's supposed to be really mean and VERY free-flowing...

My 2OTL w/ even with the SLP LT's sounds sweet ***. I can't keep my foot off the gas because it sounds so sweet.

I had the car running on the setup for 1 day. The next day my clutch and rear end started acting up. It's been 2 months since I've had the car at a local shop. A new Moser 9" is being installed right now- a few misc. parts have held up the install. The Fast 90/90 setup is also installed. As soon as I get the car back, I'll record it.

I miss my car.
