Default Headers for lowered cars.

So, I know that SLP's are the lowest hanging headers out there. But, how do the others compare for ground clearance. Since my car will be lowered, ground clearance will be my deciding factor. Should I just go with Mac's setup? Opinions appreciated!

It won't be the headers that hang the lowest...it is usually the y-pipe (or x-pipe). FWIW, I run Kooks headers on my 1.5" lowered car. No scraping, but I've scraped my 3" pipe that comes off the headers on the driver's side (that is my lowest point).

Awesome! Thanks for the help. As far as the y-pipe goes, should I look for one with the indentations, or not worry about it?

Stainless Works has some very nice headers with 2.5" Y pipe that does not hang very low.

If you are going to do a 3" pipe off the headers, I'd recommend getting it custom made (like me), or using one that has something like an oval pipe for better clearance (Kooks catted-y is crushed a bit on the driver's side to get clearance). If you are really worried about clearance, you need to do a 2.5" y-pipe. That will tuck up the best.

I'm lowered about 2 inchs with the pacesetter LT headers and ORY. Barely scrape, but if I do its the Y pipe section on the drivers side. I kind of want to add CATS back onto the car, so I might go have a custom built y pipe in 2 1/2 inchs.

i have sportlines (~2" drop) and have MAC headers w/ carsound catted y-pipe. i dont have any scraping problems, only if i go over a huge speed bump straight on. but when driving with a little sense, i havent had any trouble what-so-ever.

Jet Hot all the way. U can go with Mac's if you dont care much for HP, they are use-less for an LS1. Go LTs or go Home!

thats an interesting comment considering some people dyno higher with these than people who have longtubes. There is a recent thread of a guy dynoing 26 horses and I have a car mag that dynoed a pair of SLP longtubes at only around 11 horses. Also there are guys on here with over 600 horses and Macs. There seems to be a difference in powerbands between the two but both can generally achieve the same peak power level. I would suggest going with longtubes if you can get away with it, but for someone that is lowered this header works very well. I ouldn't suggest the cats with he macs as they flow very poorly.

No offense man, but that is magazine racing (of sorts) at its finest. On average, LTs gain more than Macs. Yes, there are some people that make impressive gains with the Macs, but there really is no reason to go with them anymore since LTs are coming down so much in price these days.

I'm pretty sure the gains have more to do with either how your computer adjusts for them or how well your car has been tuned after the fact. My car gained little from my Kooks LTs (as was shown by my track times), but a little time on the dyno showed that my A/F was way off and my timing was too high. I still haven't been able to fix it (as I don't have any tuning software), but my car just didn't want to adjust for my LTs.

Let me see now... So that means my MAC's are slowing me down. I guess I don't care about hp. Oh yeah, I am home already. Where do people get this stuff from.

Ignorance at its best. Port the Mac primaries and you'll get some kickass results. Funny how that works.
