Default belt issue with asp pulley....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i recently installed a asp pulley.... i read before that ls1s are notorious for having the tensioner cause a problem with this belt.....in the case of my car since i installed the pulley whenever i race my car the belt comes off track and comes half off the tensioner and the power steering pulleys.... its on the right track still on the crank pulley.... do i need a new tensioner??? let me know guys thanks

kinda sounds like it isnt tight enough. what if u used a slightly smaller belt? that might take whatever slack there is out and keep it on there

yeah.... i dont know if i could put a smaller belt on it.... its pretty tight on there....but i guess at high rpms im guessing maybe the tensioner is moving causing it to slip off.... the crank pulley seems ok cuz both the serpentine and the air conditioning belts are staying on just fine there.... if its the tensioner i dont know if should buy the one from thunder racing....or just another stock replacement.... dont know if i could fit a smaller belt on there....that be nice since the thunder racing tensioner goes for 130 bucs

I was having the same problems. I installed the adjustable tensioner and the matching pulley with the taller edges. Problem solved. Purchased from Thunder Racing.

I bought the Katech pulley. It was a little pricey, but the two belts I shreded wasn't much fun either. I read somewhere on here of new stock tensioners doing the same thing. I didn't want to waste the time so I just got the Katech. It is a quality piece and it doesn't look too bad under the hood either.
Good luck with you decision!

Mine started to walk off the P/S pully after the first hard run. I installed a new belt thinking the one that came with the UD pully was defective. After installing the new belt I went directly to the track, made one pass & it was walking again. I had a wrech with me so I got the belt back on track & 50 or 60 passes later have had no other problems. I suspect when the belt is new it's weirded out from being in the packaging & needed a little stretch to settle in.

just did my pulley swap with a march pulley and it's walking off the tensioner and p.s. pulley as all you have said above... this was just driving around town.. first 2 days I had my car back on the ground.... and smelling burning rubber.. my car only has 34k miles on it so.... not high milage and non racing still had an issue... I'm gonna order the tensioner from thunder.. hope it fixes my problem and if not at least it looks good....

If you do a search for the Larry pulley, you will find some info. He basically had ASP make some custom tensioner pullies with higher lips on the side so it won't walk off. They were $49 I believe..
