Default Another FAST 90mm Issue

Check your TPS sensor when you mount it to the TB. You will notice that there is alot of play between the "D" shaft and the TPS. This play causes wrong TPS readings and may cause the car to stumble or surge. I fixed it by wrapping a little electrical tape on the TB shaft to snug up the TPS. Try inserting the TPS onto the stock shaft and you will see how nice and snug it is.

You will also need to notch the TPS mounting holes to make it adjustable for the proper voltage.

Mikey: I merged your comments into this thread. Joel

Default If Your FAST TB Sticks, Come Inside

I notice that my TB sticks much worse when the underhood temps get high after a lot of stop & go driving. When the TB is cold or I go on the highway right away, the sticking isn't nearly as bad. Anyone else experience this? Please Post up your observations and keep it constructive. I'm trying to get the most USEFULL information I can give to FAST so they can solve this for all who own these units.

That's exactly how mine was behaving also. Cold startups- put putting around, it would fall back to idle at 1000rpm. After a little aggressive driving, it would stick at 1500rpm. Now it sticks at 2000rpm.

I've done that and I'm waiting on a new batch that is coming in supposedly in the next few days. Mine was not among the original batch. I've talked with Hadley and I'm not 100% convinced that FAST truely knows the full scope of the issues with the TB. That's why I'm trying to collect specifics about each person's problems.

I've also had the TPS issue that Mikey described, but until now no one else has posted on it. Having an A4 made knowing the TPS reading important (needed to update my part throttle shift tables) so I looked at the TPS readings as soon as I put it on. Most people aren't doing that.

The problem with mine (it's actually Jason's) wasn't because of the TPIS, but because the blade was simply the wrong size. I have the "New" batch by the way, it is less than 3 weeks old. It would not only stick open, but it would stick shut so it took a good bit of effort from your foot to get the thing to open, and then it all of a sudden pops open and revs up real high. I have it off the car now, and it really takes a lot to get it open, it's like the blade is just too big. It would get stuck around 2800rpm, then as you "tapped" it to unstick it, the idle would simply raise and stick there, till you eventually had to shut the car off, get out and manually pull it shut.

Take a careful look at it. On the replacement TB they sent me (which I sent back w/o installing it), I observed the issue was not the blade size but rather the blade was not centered. Holding it to the light, you could see that it stuck on the left side and had a big gap on the right side.

And to be fair with FAST, it honestly wasn't terrible when I was just driving it around town. Besides the fact that it would "pop" open, it would not stick under normal driving conditions. But once you took it on a steady pull over 3000rpm, it was going to stick, and it was going to stick EVERY TIME.

Wow! I am having this problem also. After a run down the track the rpms will stick at 2,000 to 2,800 rpms. When I get back to the pits, I adjust the throtle screw to bring the idle back down to normal. Maybe I do have a problem with my FAST set up?

My blade is to the left as well. Is it possible to tap the shaft to nudge it over a hair?

Sounds like you do.

My FAST TB would work fine on cold start up and around town, until I got on the gas. After the first stab, it would stick open between 1500-2000 rpm, then it would die back down to idle (1000rpm) after about 20 seconds at a stoplight (and sometimes, it won't come back down below 2000rpm at all). I do definately have the "cruise control" effect going on. 80mph in 6th gear without pressing the accelerator is fun!

I am racing at HRP tomorrow. I will see how my car does. If the problem still happens we will be calling FAST on Monday.

*** UPDATE ***

I got a new TB from FAST and installed it on Saturday (3/18) and the problem may be solved. I had it stick twice the first drive out after installing it, but since then it has not stuck. This is in mostly short trips in town, so the car has not had a chance to get real hot nor have I had a chance to drive on the highway and see if I get the cruise control effect.

I do notice that my rpms frequently hang up around 1400 when coasting, but this is could be a tuning issue since they will return to normal level after the car is stopped w/o having to kick them down. I gave up trying to tune the car with the TB sticking and if it doesn't stick this week, I'll start back on tuning next weekend.

If they hang at 1400 temporarily, but go down when you push in the clutch, it's not the blade sticking.
I'm going to send in my FAST 90 for repair. The TPIS 90 I bought works great. Only flaw it has is that it whistles.
