YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
Project: Red Devil (2002 Camaro SS, M6)
Current power mods: None. GM bone stock. No SLP options or anything. Dynoed on a hot day with 1800 miles at 300rwhp.
Objective: To get ~375rwhp with bolt-ons, cam, and little to no tuning. Must be very streetable, and be able to avoid dealer hassles.
Current idea:
LS6 cam, LS6 springs, TTS headers, Corsa catback, SLP lid, K&N filter, SLP MAF... Should get me to about 350rwhp, I think.
Now, with all this in mind...what should I do/change to get me to 375? All opinions wanted.
Thanks!

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
Yeah, I know there are other cams out there... I'm just learning about them, though. I'm worried mostly for reliability, drivability, and PCM tuning. I don't care much about lope...a little is cool, but it's not important.
This car is my daily driver, and I don't want the thing stalling out on me at lights and such. Being able to use the stock tuning on stock heads is a plus.
What other cams can do this for me?

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
im not sure on the specifics for cams, but im pretty sure a lot of these guys on this board are running stronger cams in their daily drivers. i plan on getting one from Comp Cams eventually (im a broke-*** right now) in my daily driver. but to answer the question, i will let the experts on this board help you out. you could always call a sponsor that sells cams and ask some questions too. and i may be wrong, but i think you will need tunning after the cam. good luck. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Roller rockers wont really be worth it. For a cam go with something around a TR220 or a TR244 on a 114 LSA. With the stock idle speed it should have some lope to it <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
I've read about those...but to be honest, I dunno where to get them and what exactly they require. Will they need PCM tuning? How much power will they provide, and what kind of powerband?
I'm a real newbie when it comes to cams...obviously.

Add ported TB and an ASP pulley to the list and you should be around your target goal.

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
What's the difference between a ported stock MAF and MAF ends? Also, I thought I understood that upgrading the throttle body is a pain and unnecessary until you're really pushing air through.
Looks like I can't avoid tuning to get the power I want.

Oh, I see. I was thinking he meant getting a bigger throttle body. Dunno what I was thinking. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />
Now what's the deal with a ported MAF or MAF ends?

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
I got a cam for sale, its got about 25-30 miles on it..
Its a Comp Cam 214/218 .540/.550 114lsa
That would be a nice quiet cam.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> and would make some descent power <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
Hmm...Im not an expert, but if you want it to be very streetable, I say go with a Solid Roller Cam. It should be enough...I think it will get u where u want to be HPwise. J/J, Seriously though..Maybe MTI B1 or T1 Cam(or something more aggresive), FLP Headers, Corsa Catback, Free Mods, MAF, TB Ported, Pulley,Lid/Filter and this should net u around where u want to be..Tuning is a Must if u want to reach taht HP. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
Okay... I've come up with my first package, just as I've been browsing ThunderRacing.com.
- TR224 114LSA cam kit (includes Comp 916 springs, hardened pushrods, etc)
- Corsa catback
- FLP headers
- Ported throttle body
- MAF ends
- ASP pulley and belts
How's that looking?
Also, in regards to pulleys... ThunderRacing has a few options. Which should I go for? I'm not gonna have any big stereos (the Monsoon's good enough for me), but I might get an HID conversion kit down the road.
One more thing, in regards to the MAF... Which would be better: MAF ends, ported stock MAF, or SLP 85mm MAF, and why?
//edit: I meant TR224, NOT a 244. That was a typo.

If my car is gonna have power, it's gonna be there all the time. I don't want to have to refill it. It's like taking Viagra. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

Re: YOU mod my car... Cam, exhaust, others come on in!
If you need to sneak a cam by a dealer, I'd think about the LS6 cam, or a 218/115/+2 or 218/114 cam. I think a 224/114 cam is noticeable. An LS6 cam is not noticeable but you could do more cam and pick up more power...
I'd do a ported TB and a crank underdrive pulley and you should be there.
A little drilling of the TB idle air hole should fix idling issues...

anything in the 220's for duration is noticeable..
The cam I'm selling idles like stock.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> But should make good power... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
