Default Next best thing to Kooks?

Next best thing to Kooks? Well I was about to order the 1 3/4 Kooks longtube headers when it hit me, I'm in California and I dont need stainless steel headers. It would be nice to save my money and buy the next best thing to Kooks headers. Any Ideas? Thanx!

How about Kooks headers in mild steel? I believe that they are still available...there is a GP in the sponsor forum that lists the mild steel option:

I live in Los Angeles, it's sunny, that's it! It never snows and it hardly rains. When it rains the car goes into the garage. Not worried about Emissions. There's always a way. What is mild steel?Thanx!

Mild steel is simply rust without the oxygen.

Thats pretty much it.. Of course the oxygen is provided for free.

Mild steel is just that. It's your normal run of the mill steel. Not stainless, not chrome moly, just thick, steel prone to rust.

It's really up to you. Stainless is just a REALLY good idea. if you want to save money you can but I am of the idea of "do it once, do it right"

That's true. I know stainless is worth it. No doubt about it. Just alot of guys around suggest that I dont need stainless steel headers and save my money for other bolt-on's. Any more suggestions, Thanx!

I thought I was having good luck with my JetHot coated headers that were sprayed with an extra layer of VHT 1200º clear. After this winter, even this finally started chippinga dn peeling with rust. Ill have to see what I can come up with to counteract the rust and protect it from further damage while its still manageable. My car is a daily driver and sees tons of snowy salted roads in the winter, not to mention living on an island surrounded by salt water in every direction. All things considered, ceramic coated mild steel helpd up pretty well for as while.

I would check out some of Por-15's high temp coatings. If anyone will have a product that should work well i belive they would.

But I am going stainless for sure when I do headers. I am just **** like that. Always the best

It won't matter that it doesn't rain much there, there is salt in the air which will make your headers rust faster.

i live in san diego and got stainless because ive seen friends headers rust. I dont think it matters where you live, steel will rust. In my opinion, buying stainlees will save you money. You will only have to buy headers once. Good luck
