not trying to steal your thread, but i have a ? regarding the A.I.R. system. When i go to remove it from my car, do i need some kind of block-off for the part that is open, or do i just yank it off and that's that?

you need to plug the air injection tubes on the manifold/headers.

AIR pulls filtered air from the air lid. Plug that hole so that unfiltered air wont enter your engine.

Isn't the A.I.R. just connected to the headers? I wasn't aware that it is also connected to the air lid?

if that other line goes to the back of the intake and the other line thats blocked off went to the AIR system, then yes take it off and plug the other line off that goes to the intake

Not tryin to steal the thread but, i have a tube for the air just hanging in my engine compartment not hooked up to anything. Should i just cap the air flanges on the header? Does it matter that the car was tuned with the air on?

It'll throw a code if it was tuned with it on. But other than that it won't matter.

diamond01SS - there is something else that needs to be plugged. There is a vacuum tube near the back of the passenger side head that will need to be plugged. I think this is on 01's and 02's only though.

all cars have that little sensor that goes to the vacuum port on the back of the intake manifold and if u totally remove it all then this is the only thing that needs capping, along with the exhaust

I removed my AIR and there was nothing connected to the air lid or the back of the manifold. Is this normal? The car is a '99.

I took my air system off, plugged the airlid, capped the headers, and pullee the pump and all the hoses, but there's one thing on the back of the drivers side head that had 3 hooses going to it ( one from the pump, and 1 to each header ) that is still on my car... I can't get to the bolt that is holding it on the back of the engine.. so I left it there, with all 3 openings open... no problems so far, been that way for a few thousland miles. Anyone know what size bolt it is that holds that piece to the back of the motor, and how many bolts there are holding it on? If so, I'll try to rip the thing off. As far as I can tell, there's nothing else hooked up to it either, so I'm not sure what vacum line you all are referring to.

JL ws6,
There is a vacuum line hooked to that thing bolted on the back of the engine. It is on the the center, or top of it. We both have 01's, so I'm betting there is a vacuum line there. Sorry, I don't remember what size the bolt is, but it is a major PITA to get off. There are two bolts holding it on though.
If I remember correctly I just pulled the plastic part off and then took the bracket off. If you pull in the right direction, it will slide off the bracket with out breaking anything, then you can get at the bolts easier.

That thing in the picture looks to be a fuel tank purge or evap solenoid. If there is a line coming from the tank, make sure you cap it off or else fuel vapors could leak out. If they were to ignite, you'd have your own personal car-b-que.

thats not what this is, although on my car it was placed right beside of it.

the black tree on the back of the motor for the 3 big lines can be pulled strait up and then there is a 10,13 or 15 mm bolt holding it on, i cant remember but i wanna say its a 13. once u break it loose the bolt will come out by hand, it was a major PITA for me though

Are you replying to a different thread? That 'thing' in the picture is in the nose/wheel well near the AIR pump, not the back of the motor.

O.K>, I see the line coming off the top of that thing.... I'll have to see if I can get to the bolts on the back of it, if I can, then I'll pull it off, and cap that line going to the top of it off with a screw and some silicone or something, but if I can't get to the bolts, it's staying there.. I'm lookingto remove weight, but I doubt that weigh's enough to make a huge impact. Certainly doesn't seem to hurt the car it being there with the vacum line still hooked up and the rest of the air stuff off, as I ran a new personal best of 12.39 @ 113.2 last night on a 1.85 60 foot, spinning hard off the line, so I'm not too worried about it. Just looks kinda stupid sitting there... but hey, at least it buried under the cowel where noone will really notice
