I was at a cruise event where they shut down the street and let all cars at least 10years old cruise the strip. I pulled up and snuck in the with the oldies. A cop asked if my car was older than 10years old. I explained that my car is no ordinary fbody and that I invested a load of cash into it. He said that he thought my car was pretty nice and he let me roll with the oldies. I think my car is loud as hell, but in comparison with some of the other cars, my open tsp duals w/ cam was pretty tame. How do heads change a cars ex. note? Maybe I need a set of heads.

If you raise the compression with head work it gets better/louder. I think my car with Magic Stick v.3 and dumped duals is pretty loud, but it's still no race car. What mufflers do you run? The bullets it comes with? For sound quality like an old muscle car try sweet thunders.

I run Bullets. When you say "old muscle car sound", do you mean a deep tone? How would you compare the bullet sound to that of the sweet thunder muffler? I think that the bullets are pretty deep?

The sweet thunders just sound a little better. I've only heard the ST's on a cammed/dumped LS1 at idle though. I'm happy with my bullets for now. What were you running with that your 231 cam and dumped duals didnt hold it's own?
My 237/242 with dumped duals and dynomax bullets can hold it's own....i hope.

I hate to tell ya, but it just doesn't seem like you can get that classic sound out of these cars. LS1 is just a totally different animal, and I haven't heard one that has the sound of the old muscle cars.

Don't get me wrong. My car sounds sweet, especially when I lower the idle using hp tuners. I just like loud cars. Don't drive the z much, so I can tolerate the drone and other issues.

I have to agree with LSUxBlake, I was going to say with a cam and true duals, but I see you already have that. I'm afraid that's about as close as you're going to get with an LS1.

You'll never get the old BBC sound out of an 346ci LS1. No way never happen. My old setup on my boat engine was very close though.......
350 ci 4blt bored .60 to 360ci
AFR 195cc Heads
Solid Roller 257/269 .493/.512 112LSA Cam
Corsa 3.5" Marine Headers
Man I will never forget the sound that motor made!!!!!! Screamed to 7000 rpms all day long on the water.

Firing order is also different. LS1 firing order has been described as "perfect", but I'm sure other engines might have more of the sound you are looking for due in part to firing order.

My Twisters made my car sound pretty close to the classic big block sound. Those, Sweet Thunders, and the 1 chamber Flowmasters from what some have said seem to give a little more of the sound you're looking for. Let's face it, most of those older big block muscle cars all run 2 chamber flowmasters. They may not flow well, but you can't beat the sound.

Longtubes and GMMG with a LARGE cam with a higher lift- .575 or higher (I would say more like .590+) on a 112 LSA. and a nice set of heads. I promise you that it is a SBC/BBC sound.

the one why to get that same sound is to put a big block in it haha
actually I love the sound of a high powered ls1 the first cammed ls1 i heard was at the dragstrip it sounded so good I thought the owner had put a big block in it. I even asked him if it was a big block in it and he said it was a ls1, ever since then I had to have a ls1. lol
