Why do you guys keep holding on to your lt1s?

This is a question I'm always asked. Sentimental value? Maybe. Torque? Definitely! I love the way the lt1 sounds with a cam. Any cam. I love the way my car pulls off idle. I also own an ls1 so I'm able to compare. The ls1 is definitely more refined, and faster stock, even with 125k miles on the clock, but the way that lt1 behaves, it just feels like an animal. I've heard some good sounding ls1s but usually they have huge cams. I don't particularly like the way mine sounds with longtubes and stock exhaust. It has a nasty rasp I've never heard on an lt1.

I keep mine because Im in way too deep!
There are a number of things that I like about the LT1 over the LS1. I personally like the nose of the 93-97 Camaro more than the LS1 style. The torque is incredible and like you said, the sound cant be beat. I like the feeling of the car acting like a racecar...rough ride, choppy idle, lots of noise. Thats just me.

On a road course my semi-stock LT1 blasts out of the turns faster and, while not as fast on the top end as an LS1, is still fast enough to stay ahead into the next turn on most tracks. Of course, since I'm 100lbs nose heavy vs. an LS1 (due to the LT1 iron block), that's something I've got to deal with on the chassi/suspension/braking side.
I also like the look of the nose better on the camaro--except the actual headlamps themselves. Overall, though, I still like both the LT1 and LS1.

I like my LT1 because of the same reasons you guys like your LT1s. I love how the hatch hydraulics rattle when I am driving, and how my windows roll up at negative eight miles an hour, and how the shifter rattles, how torquey it is, how the noise can scare small children, and how friggin loud it is. Sometimes the little imperfections bug me...but then I start it up and haul *** down the road and I feel much better.

Number one reason I keep My LT1? I bought a house last year
Then there is the love affair with my car. It IS and always has been an animal! Brutal and unrefind in power and yet VERY refined in the drive. Of the Seven Camaros I have owned This one is the best driving one of all. We have had a total of four 95 camaros between my Wife and I. Every time she thinks of trading hers off she drives her Z28 and life is good again!
As far as LS1 ones they just do not have the Feed back Feeling a LT1 does. They tend to let you slip over that fine line with out warning and you are in trouble. Not to mention with out a SS hood they are ugly as sin
They have the power that is a fact. They perform very well. Then again 15* nascar inspired heads do not hurt on that arena
BUT still Ugly IMHO
We will step into the LS market in a few years for sure but right now other things are more important. I design and Fab most my own stuff so My LT1 will have to kick it into the 10s and then the 9s before she get retired

I like mine for several reasons:
1. I like the nose's of the LT1's better as mentioned before. Not into the 'fish face' look of the LS1's at all.
2. Mine's a 97 so I have the newer styled interior just like the LS1's.
3. My LT1 can keep up with or beat 90% of the LS1's on the road even on the top end.
4. Not sure why this is, but I don't notice any squeaks/rattles in my LT1 and it's a T-top car without sub-frame connectors. Even my friend that has had both LT1 and LS1 says that mine is the most solid riding LT1 car he's ever driven and it's got over 110k on the clock.
5. As mentioned before, I too have the $$ invested in this car so it doesn't make economical sense to start over with an LS1. If I didn't already have this car, I would seriously consider an LS1 (probably a C5 though). Starting from scratch, an LS1 def makes more power with less $ upfront.
6. The LS1 is a brutaly strong motor from the factory and take a lot of punishment on the stock shortblock. But, after you get into stroking/rebuilding, that initial $$ per hp savings goes right out the window because I think the LS1's are still more expensive to stroke/rebuild.
7. I kind of enjoy being an 'underdog' that walks softly and carries a big stick.![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
8. I have a history with this car. This is the longest I've ever owned one car (5+ years). Before this one, I rarely owned a car longer than 1 year. I usually get bored easily with cars, but this one just keeps putting a smile on face year after year.![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)

I can rebuild my LT1 without going into debt. The LS1/LS6 motors are just too damn expensive to build in the first place, and when it's time to rebuild, it's still expensive. Unless the bores are in great shape, you have to worry about finding a new block, or having one resleeved every time you rebuild one. ALL LS1/LS6 parts are WAY too expensive! What ever happened to "bang for the buck"? If I'm gonna pay that kind of money, I'll just build a big block.
You have to set a goal, and then work towards that goal. This goal needs to be realistic! If your goal is to have the fastest street car, I hope your rich, and I hope you plan on building a big block with a blower or a turbo and nitrous. You need to look at #1 what you want, #2 how much money you have, and #3 how much your willing to spend to get it.
I want a daily driver (pump gas only) that runs 10's. I want it to be reliable. I want to be able to rebuild it without using a credit card. With a supercharged LT1 in my '68, with the right suspension and tires, I can pull this off in the near future. The best part is that I didn't use a credit card once. All of this stuff is PAID for.

Own 2 94 Transams. One for me and one for my wife. I gave up on the LT1 in my car. It was producing 577 FWHP. To many issues with motor to keep throwing money at it. Sold LT1 and now in the process of building a LS1. Car is allready set up for full race. Bought wifes car just to tinker with and to install all the old LT1 parts I had laying around. Have a total investment in her car of $3,700.00. Includes cost of buying the car. Her car runs 12.54 with a baby Crane cam 212/218, stock heads, stock bottom end.
I still like to tinker with the LT1s but for real HP, the LS1 is the only way to go.

$8000!! 40K on clock, 97 Z28.
http://www.knology.net/~nova5/graphi...rontdriver.jpg
Tommorrow i wash it if its warm enough, and get new pics. I have the 70's style Z28 badges now on it. I never did like the black plastic ones, black on black.. kinda no point to them being there then!
Than and one of my LS1 buddies commented that mine sounded meaner than his when all either one had done was a flowmaster. Now his has headers and shortly a cam. gonna be one mean sounding LS1 for him. eventualy i'll do some stuff to mine to.

Because they're cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, cheap to build, and with a little headwork you can be just as fast as some of the LS1 boys. Plus, a good set of ported heads doesnt cost 2500 bucks like LS1 heads do, they're about half that price.
