Default which mufflers are loud?

I have true dual set up with ATR pitbulls and they sound sweet but they have a full deep tone to them. I'm looking for a loud hollow sound something close to a mustang. (i know it won't sound like a mustang but something along those lines.) what about the XR1 borla? please help cause i dont want to go from muffler to muffler.........thanks guys. (by the way its 3 inch piping)

Sweet thunder. They only have a 2.5" core, but everyone who has heard or run ST's swears by them. They even make the mustang comparison. You can google Sweet Thunder for their website or use common sense and a - to guess it.

BTW: Most use the chambered exhaust (general) 18" long 3" body with 2.5" core in stainless.

I dont think its a hollow sound, I just think its insanely deep. I always felt GHL Magnums were the best sounding C5 system for making the LS1 sound deep, but they have been humbled. Sweet Thunders sound amazing.

XR-1s sound good, but they do have that hollow sound and are a bit expensive. Dynomax Bullets are cheaper, and they do sound badass but IMO that vid is by far the best sounding LS1 Ive ever heard.

Outside of that, hitup www.ls1sounds.com if you want your own opinion. They have a plethora of true dual setups w/ all types of muffler and header combo's.

I don't really think you can get that hollow sound on F-bodies, I could be wrong but I think it has something to do with how mustangs are OHC.

The hollowness usually comes from using Flowmaster Original 40series from what Ive seen/heard. Its not due to them being OHC. (Find a ZR-1 w/ aftermarket exhaust and you'll understand what Im talkin about).

Its not a bad sound, but compared to some other systems you can hear a big difference in depth. Altho the Ford firing order could have some effect on it, but Im sure its more/less the mufflers you're using. Cause 40s on an LT1 sound somewhat hollow, but w/ a Ypipe its not as noticiable as w/ an X or H.

I had dynomax bullets on my duals (also 3inches) and they were deep too, almost so deep that I didnt like it. Duals on an LS1 are gona be deep no matter what. If I do duals again, they will be out the back and mostlikley with no muffler.

Mustangs sound the way they do because of three reasons. Iron block, firing order, true duals.

I have sweet thunders and it's an amazing sound. It's IMO the closest sound you can get to a mustang. I personally think it sounds better. It's not as hollow but it screams more. It's more the like the 03 cobras w/exhaust.

lol And if I lived in Hawaii, I'd probably have some sort of dash cover up there too.

I didnt think the iron block made a difference in exhaust tone, but I guess it could. Its probably minimal, but a change none-the-less.

Is that so. I know the firing order has the most to do with it.

I figured the firing order had probably the most to do w/ it. If the block was a difference, I'd assume the diff between alum or iron would be minimal, I'd figure it'd have more to do w/ size and location of the exhaust ports more than the material but who knows...Im no engineer (no pun intended).

Yeah, I knew 4Vs have been aluminum since 96.

Spintech mufflers are ok, but they're similar to conventional mufflers than Sweet Thunders, Borla XR-1s or Dynomax bullets.

The Loud Mouth setup on the other hand is a bullet style, not conventional mufflers. You're just as well off getting the ST, XR-1 or dynomax bullets as the Loud Mouth IMO being the LM system rasps like crazy. But if you wish to purchase it anyway

PN 31066 $74.95 shotgun style

- or -

PN 31067 $99.95 for the Loud Mouth II bullet-type

The shotgun (loudmouth I) is louder than the loudmouth II. But dont make the mistake I did by buying loudmouth then later on installing headers it gets really ugly. Thats why I had to buy a quieter catback.
