Default Exhaust question???

Ok guys here it is. I am ordering a Hooker Aerochamber muffler & the 3.5" "SLP" style double wall slash cut tips from WS6store.com. Will i get the same gains from my stock piping with just the muffler as i would from the cat-back system? Im tryin to save money & dont really see a point in changing all the cat-back piping until i get my Hooker LT's & ORY. Then it will all go to 3". But until then i can get what im lookin at for $158.23 shipped. Thats better than $324 shipped for the cat-back. Then im gonna use the extra $100 for a "SLP" short throw shifter & short stick from WS6store.com also. Am i headin in the right direction? Any comments are appreciated.

P.S.- Sorry its so long.

you will see minimal gains with just a muffler..IMO, get the whole catback system as this wil remove factory restrictive piping. The bigger pipes will allow your car to breath power, helping it to create more power...hooker makes a great catback, along with magnaflow, SLP, etc. Stay away from flowmaster as it is the most restrictive catback system out there.

save your money now and get a cutout put in. then when you have the cash get a set of pacesetter LT and ORY and catback, or what i would do is the pacesetter LT and then TSP duals. sound will be bad ***.

See everyone says Flowmaster sucks, but my friend has a 99' Z28 with lid, TB, cats cut out, & a flowmaster muffler with stock piping & he runs a 12.89 best & a 12.90 consistantly. And it sounds good. I know there are way better mufflers, but im not sure flowmaster is as bad as everyone says.

it depends. when you get to higher HP numbers the flowmaster is gonna choke up the system i believe. it doesnt flow as well as it needs to to support the HP. it sounds fine, at least the ones i've heard, but i would not put it on my car. not worth it IMO. also is your friends car an A4?

there are dyno #s and track times proving that the flowmaster does not flow as well as others. Its easy to understand if you look at the design of the muffler. One is straight through not restricting flow, while the other has baffles, which does restrict flow, i.e. flowmaster. I like flowmasters sound when i had it on my stock LT1...but I believe that any combination of no cats, LT headers, etc its going to sound like ***, and im sure there are many on this board that will agree.

I bet he'd run 12.85 and below with a cutout. I gained around 20hp with a cutout before my Slowmaster (car came with it). I figured I lost 10hp from stock with the Slowmaster, and gained 10hp from not having a muffler at all. It may have been 5 and 15, though. Either way, I gained 20 on a dyno with that being the only real difference.

Yea his Z28 is an A4. Im not a fan of the Flowmaster either, but he likes it. As far as me, im goin with Hooker Aerochamber. I have listened to LS1sounds.com & the Hooker is what im goin with. Not only does it sound great, even with LT's & ORY, but, everyone who i have seen post that has it loves it. What i was really wanting to know is how much power im losin with just using the muffler instead of the entire cat-back system.

look at my sig at my exhaust setup i love it. I had a flowmaster and i did not like it at all. It had to much interior noise and now with the hooker on the way its nice and quiet. But give it the gas and it screams. i recommend the hooker cat-back to anyone.

I would get the whole catback personally. I bought the magnaflow muffler by itself at 1st, then bought the rest of the catback later. The catback sounded alot better than just the muffler. The muffler is where most of the gain is, but magnaflow says the catback piping is worth 4-5rwhp.

BTW, flowmaster sucks. I've seen head and cammed cars gain 15 rwhp from switching out the flowmaster for a hooker/magnaflow or other high flowing muffler.

Man I just put my Hooker catback on this past Friday. Go to Advance Auto Parts and get it, they have got the best deal that I have found. It was like $286.00 or something like that, after tax it was $299.00 and there is'nt any shipping to pay. I'm sure they can get just the muffler too if that's the route you decide to go. I like mine, I have just listened to it idling and revved it up a few times, but it sounds good. I might get it out and drive it 1 day this week and really try it out.
