Question Buy TB or Port?

I just wanted to know what everyone would recomend. Would you port your existing TB or buy a new one? What are the disadvantages of porting?

The only new TB that I would buy is the FAST 90. Other than that get your stocker ported. If you are planning on going with some pretty decent power in the future go with the FAST. Otherwise stick with the ported one

I wish I would have just ported my own. Instead, I blew a ton on a unit I could have pretty easily have made on my own.

I ported mine over 3 years ago. But at that time it was pretty much DIY anyway.

Yeah, that's way smaller than an LS1 TB. And you don't want to "bore out" an LS1 TB. You don't want to remove any material where the butterfly valve seats. There is some material you can remove in front of the butterfly, and there is an area you can smooth out with a filler where the air inlets into the IAC , etc.

Dont port your LT1 throttle body. And sure as hell dont touch it where the butterfly is. That area has to be matched.

The reason people port LS1 throttle bodies is because there is a bottleneck in front of the butterfly that can be removed.

I ported mine. There are some good how-tos on how to do it if you search. It is not rocket science. What it is worth HP wise is still debatable. Just take your time and be careful.

When you are done in an hour you will be glad you did not fork out big cash for one.

Good Luck!!!

I ported my own TB, and I had problems since that. I mean, on cold startups my idle jumps up-and-down, and finally after 30 seconds finds its idle. It got worse after my cam swap...Now it takes 1 minute to stabilize....

I don't wanna spend $$$ on 90/90 combo, so I'll either get a 80mm BBK unit, or I'm just gonna buy a stock TB and replace it with my butchered stock unit...
