Default Are 98 coil packs different?

I bought new center bolt valve covers along with the valve cover bracket. Now my coil packs that were on the old perimeter style covers wont fit. I have seriously tried everything, but they are to small to line up with the threads and to big to fit into the holes...

So IDK, I always thought they were all the same???

They will fit they just have alot of extra wire. you have to flip a couple of them over. just make sure ytou keep them in order. or your car will backfire its *** off when you start it.

Thats what I was thinking. Aight I ll get my *** out there and figure out a way.

Also. The coils...they need to be grounded for the enigine to start? So if they were not bolted down to the bracket would the car not start?

I tired firing it up last night and had the coils off to the side so that they were not bolted down to the bracket and the car never fired...they need to be grounded correct?

Are the brackets a must? can I just bolt the coil down to the cover like the 98's?

Car should start without the coils bolted down.

If it's not starting, I'd start with all the grounds.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. What about that one connection from the coils? with those 2 small bolts. I grounded that and it seemed to work...but the battery died as I was cranking it.

When cranking it it sounded more wet? as before it sounded really dry to me. Once that was grounded I really thought it was about to fire till the battery went.

Lithium, hit me up with a message again tonight if Imon, I will try and help walk you through it and see if we cant figure this out. It sounds to me like the coils needed to be grounded, which i was thinking they did. Anyhow, get that damned charger on her, and give it another whirl! Hit me up tonight and let me know if you need anymore help pal!

Lithium, the coils are all the same from 98-02 on the f-bodies... The mounting part of the coils should be facing the front of the car on the driverside & facing the firewall on the passengerside... The bolt pattern should start out with a stud & nut holding down the braket to the valve cover, then two bolts holding down the coil to bracket on the driverside & opposite on the passenger... Hopes this helps you man, good luck with it!

Hey guys thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

So its has to be the brackets then...TSP has a history with sending wrong stuff to me. Before I call them though...heres a pic of the brackets and my solution.

I actually kinda like it to tell you the truth may keep them like this -
