Volant vs FTRA
I've done many searched and I haven't been able to find any info to fully answer my question.
Mods are in my sig. What would benefit me more at this point? A Volant intake(provided it fits under a stock Z hood) or the FTRA?
Anyone have experience with both on the same car?
Any info would be great.
Thanks!

Yeah no problem man, if I had heard better things about Volant or FIPK then I would of gone with either of them instead. Just kept hearing positive things about the FTRA and the gains people were seeing with it...so I went with the SSRA and a lid myself

I have the Volant, I don't think it would work on a Z28 and if you don't have the system on an SS its kind of useless. The Volant seals to the hood completely and breathes through holes in the hood where the air loops around. It most definatley works, my filter actually gets dirty faster that my old lid setup. Sand kicked up from peoples tires comes in the scoop and accumulates at the base of the sealed airbox. My car picked up some speed over the lid, most noticably when its cold and the ram air feeds cold air to the filter. FTRA will do the same thing. The Volant would definately pick up more if I fixed the limiting factor with the system, which is actually the hood. The filter breathes through the four very small rectangular holes in the SS hood. There is tones of room to add two more rows of holes, or just hog out the whole thing with a dremel. I just don't want to cut the hood up.

I would say yes. I would even say that if you have an SS and aren't willing to cut up your hood, the Volant is dead even with the FTRA and only spend the extra money if you want it for looks. And it looks damn good, like it was made for it! The Firebird Volant is the best intake available for that car, 2 filters, better hood ram air design and larger sealed airbox volume means more power.

lid and ftra/ssra is the best intake there is out there for any car period. there is no way that a stock ss or ws6 hood can flow as much air with a volant compared to a lid frta set up. there is a high pressure zone right in front of the radiator and the ftra takes advantage of that, the ss/ws6 hood flows nothing even close to that. I personally think the best set up that there is, is what SUX2BU has. check this link out https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...6&page=2&pp=20

I was looking at that but I'm not too keen on taking off the bumper absorber.
