MAF free horsepower?
-potentially- a loss of airflow metering fidelity, which
depends a lot on the geometry of your intake tract.
The stock screened MAF presents a restriction on the
order of the stock lid, even at lower airflows (per my
shop vac measurements); as airflow goes up this is
going to worsen as the little channels go internally
turbulent. On a pressure-drop basis this argues for
descreening. However a lid has no downsides to it.
Until you are prepared to retune for the errors you
create, best to not create it. The performance may
not materialize, or more substantial downsides can
accrue (like from reduced A4 line pressure if the
error is bad).
Have an "exit strategy".
