don't waste so much money on something that can be done for the price of a cutting tool. you wont see much gain with a metal insert. there is an article floating around on ls1camaro.net i believe that explains that this mod is very worth doing.

free ram air

Go with the SSRA, more air intake and it doesn't block your radiator as much

I ahve the SSRA,quality piece and the textured plastic makes it look factory.I can't really tell if ET improved because it was an over the winter mod last year along with a few other things.

A cusaom set up is one million times better (performance wise) than all those. and costs alot less.

I've had my FTRA on for about 5 years with no problems. I can't give any HP quantification, but back when the car was near stock, I noticed better gas mileage and slightly lower cruising RPMs. It's a cheap, easy mod and you can usually pick up a used one like I did for around $75...

Cutting a few plastic pieces isn't the same as what they're talking about.

I agree, your setup is a cool but a lot of people, including myself, don't want to ditch or hack up their absorber or rad support.

I have the FTRA and its a noticable mod if you dont have much. Me being a TA without RamAir its a must. Install Unniversity has done testing on it check out their site. Along with the TB Coolant Bypass your intake charge is so much cooler isnt the avg IAT like 125 or so but with the FTRA and Bypass its like 75 degrees? Someone has stats here somewhere. Since you have a Z28 some have made there own coming off the front grill. Yes the free ram air works also but its not controlled air flow. Call the sponser Fast Toys --------> they can tell you who has some.

Side note I am going to hook up my scan tool and see what my IAT during 45mph and up

I've heard the metal FTRA heats up and in stop and go traffic especially in places like Miami can make your engine take in a lot fo hot air and decrease engine longevity a lot. People have also said the free ram air lets in hor air and is no good. I'm going to do things safe and right by getting the ssra which is plastic and performs pretty similarly to the FTRA or FRA

Running the car at 170 degrees IAT was 64degrees below 40mph

At 40 to 50 it went to 62 degrees

At a 3 min idle the car warmed to 180
IAT was 94 degrees

Airtemp was 60 with 38% humidity. I am in Socal

Before I go home i'll let the car get to 94 Degrees IAT and then drive home and see what it does..
