Default pcv mod to stop detonation??? HELP!!!

Has anyone solved detonation problems by installing a filter in the pcv line? This is supposed to keep oil out of the throttle body and intake manifold. I have heard that even a small amount of oil in the air/fuel mixture can cause detonation. I always use 93 octane. I have water wetter. My cooling fans run 100% of the time. I don`t think my detonation is due to a heat problem because it`s the same old shiznit when it`cold. What is the deal? `02 Z28,A4,2:73,K&N FIPK,SLP Y-pipe

I think it was "toms firebird" pcv mod was the only way I got rid of my detonation. Do a search, you'll find it. It requires two fuel filters inline and a catch can. Plan on changing the filters quite often. I was amazed at how much oil was gathered.

If burning oil caused detonation then my El
Camino would explode.

I think maybe this refers to forced induction
systems, and manifold backfiring (bad, with
plastic manifolds).

The only way I can see oil causing true
detonation (preignition) is carbon buildup
making hot spots. At 10:1 CR, a little glow
plug could make you a diesel.

But the PCV isn't supposed to be sucking up
anything but air and blowby vapors. Oil should
be trapped or never hit the PCV valve. Seems
that the latter isn't an option without internal
rework.... I suggested using a compressed air
oil/water separator. Don't know where you'd hang
one that's big enough to help. It'd be fairly
easy to make one that was more inconspicuous
than the industrial sort.

I actually have a couple industrial air/oil separators on order right now. They should be in within the next couple days. They are no bigger than the filters used for the inline finlter mod.

Would like to see pics or a howto link
when you're done. Maybe put 2 clean paper
filters downstream before & after, and see
how effective the separator mod turns out?

I have a little inline oil separator for
my paint gun; is this the kind you're
talking about? It's kind of low capacity.
The other one I have is wall-mount, painted
industrial puke green and pretty chubby.
Not the look I'd go for, even if it'd fit.

I enjoyed the info at that link.

Do you hear the detonation? or could it be a false reading? I know it's common for LS1's to burn a good bit of oil.

I burn a qt every 1200 miles or so, but get 0 detonation on the scan-master. Some cars may be different. BTW car is a 00.

Can't be right. As far as the PCV valve, is it possible to replace it with a breather? That way gravity would be on your side. Then just plug the TB to PCV hose connection. If you have detonation when cold, it has to be a timing/fuel issue. Is your MAF sensor wire clean? I see you have a K&N. The filter oil may be contaminating your MAF.
