Default I think my car's leaking something... help me figure out what...

As I backed out of the garage tonight I noticed a small trail of fluid beneath where the front of the car was.

It appears to have flowed a couple of feet from where it was originally "dripped." What I noticed was that most of it appeared to have evaporated. This leads me to believe that it's not oil. The fluid is a mustard yellow mixed w/ brown color. It has *no* odor that I could smell, and had been on the painted garage floor since Saturday night, with no damage to the floor.

I think it dripped out from right between the front two tires, somewhere in or around the area beneath the steering linkage (is that the k-member?). Checked the power steering fluid (and smelled it) and it's not that.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be? No smell and much of it has evaporated (and it's freakin' brown/yellowish?!)...

edit: Oh yeah, I don't think it's coolant either cause my coolant is still pink in color and has that antifreeze smell.

Blinker fluid maybe???? LOL

Well there aren't too many things it could be: coolant, oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, or hydraulic fluid(if the car is a 6 speed) or transmission fluid(if its an A4)

Its possible that you have a bad break line. Check your brake fluid and you might find the problem. I beleive there are probably ways to see if you have a bad line(im not sure how) You might wanna check with a local parts store or something.

Well, when that happened to me, the same color fluid, and the same evaporation thing, it was my battery leaking out of the positive terminal. New battery, and $80 later, no more leaking. It's worth checking, the battery fluid dries and looks like that. Good luck

Thanks guys.. I just went out and checked it out. It's not the battery (at least it looks fine and appears not to be leaking), and it's not the brake fluid either. (Just flushed it a month or so ago and it's still full/clean.)

hmm...

It looks like it came from the exact center of the car, right between the front wheels.

Someone also suggested to me that it could be the "ac condensation drain" - could that be it?

Mine didn't appear to be leaking until I unhooked the positive terminal. (or was it negative, lol). It could be the ac condensate drain, but I dunno why that would be yellowish brown. You sure some weird rodent didn't run under your car and spontaneously combust?

If its not battery acid, it could be A/C condensate or water that has collected and caused rust. Does it look like rusty water?

The water could drip down onto something that's a little dirty and pick up some dirt with it. Of course, I've never seen your car dirty, but that would explain why it's brown/yellow. It has been hot here lately...been running that AC?

check the puke tank for the radiator...sometimes, theres gunk build up in the puke tank and it may tend to leak...What about your windshield washer tank, is it full? does it have a leak?
