Default Has anyone's stock battery die unexpectantly??

I went out to my car this morning to leave for work. When I got in, I turned the key to the on position to prime the fuel pump. When I did that, I noticed the time on the clock said 1:00 (when it really was close to 10am). I figured that was wierd, but went to start the car anyways. All I heard was the starter making a clicking noise. I tried it again with the same result. LOL Damn battery was pretty much dead.

I took my sister's car to get another one and came back and installed it. The car fired right up.

Anyone had their battery take a crap on them unexpectantly? The car had been sitting up for ~2 weeks waiting on my T56 to be rebuilt. However, I installed the tranny last night and the car fired right up. Kind of wierd... LOL

BTW, my car is ~2.5yrs old and has 28k miles on it. It was the factory battery that came with the car.

mine died about the same length of time. If you would drive the car everyday it was fine. Let it sit more than a couple days and you would have to charge the battery. I finally got sick of it and got a new one

The battery in my T/A lasted just a little over 3 years. The car was built in July '97, and it took a crap on me in September '00. I replaced it with an Optima and called it good.

Humor me ...

Tranny/Battery fine ...
Trans died and you removed it ...
2 weeks pass ....
Trans installed/battery fine ....
few hours later ... battery dead

Playing devil's advocate, and not discounting the battery did puke all of a sudden, it sounds more like a battery drain, than the battery just all of sudden died shortly after you did a major repair.

I dunno ... like I said ... Devil's advocate ...

I noticed a problem with my car at 1,700 miles, right after I had an installer do some work. Replaced battery with an Optima, still goes dead after sitting a week. I'm inclined to believe some damage was done to the electrical system which causes a slow drain when the car sits, but so far have not found any problem. When started, the gauge shows the battery charging. Hmmm...

Mine sat up for 2.5 months and fired up right away, no problems as of yet. I did disconnect the battery ground though.

Mitch, that's what I was thinking too. I was hoping I just left some interior lights on,etc. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary though.

I have heard of them dying all of a sudden also. Hopefully, this was the case. LOL

All is well now though. The car sat up last night and fired up fine.

My stock battery was leaking around the positive terminal and kept corroding the bolt. I replaced with a good old Interstate battery @ 45K miles. (2 years, give or take a month).

Weird, mine leaked out of the positive terminal, looked like a lil green man had been smashed under my car, anyway, new battery, no problems.

You guys that saw leaks from the poitive terminal should check your passenger side sway bar bushing and bracket as well as your AC compressor.

The bracket corroded badly and turned the ES bushing kind of powdery white. And there was signs of corrosion on my AC clutch.

Batery acid leaked out the + terminal on the wiring harness and my headlight stopped working. Just clean the connector up with some baking soda and vinager.

Hehe, i never gave mine a chance to die... I replaced the stock battery in my 99 a few months ago. But i replaced it with a used Optima Red Top.. it came out of my 87 chevy 4x4 used to run the winch... The optima was only a year old.. And so far its awesome.. No problems yet..

I pulled into a parking lot in town one day and got out and got back in and it wouldn't crank. Luckily my dad pulled up in his duallie and we used one of his batteries and it fired right up.

Mine died after 3 years unexpectedly, of course when it was 15 degrees out in the middle of the night!. I noticed while changing it that it had corroded and pretty much stripped the paint out from under the battery holder. It was completely rusted underneith and the hole for the bolt was rusted through.
