I am running breathers only. Venting the valve covers is fine but doesn't the ability to actually PULL vacuum out of the heads save the life of the motor? Am I right in thinking that without vacuum the piston rings will not seat right under boost and the car will consume oil and have blowby? (I'm new, what is blowby?) So how do we pull vacuum under boost when it is most important?
Does the water/oil seperator from Home Depot really work that well? I like the theory of the filter vs. the screen, makes sense. Plus it is clear and easy to see when it is full. My only concern is if it works so well, why is Stangkilla not seeing a drop while other guys are seeing two cups per week?
Big question #1: Do I need to put a checkvalve between the catchcan and TB so I don't push air under boost?
Big question #2: Is venting only the pass. valve cover good for the whole engine or is that only partially helping? Should I run a catchcan to both VC's to the TB?

my set up is:
stock oil cap
one 3/8 hose from pass. valvecover front to fitting on pipe btwn air filter and turbo
one 3/8 hose from ls6 valley cover to same place btwn filter and turbo
one 3/8 brake booster valve on pass. valvecover rear oriented for airflow out only
-the above are all to vent the engine under boost; when the turbo is sucking in air the pressure between it and the filter is lower than atmospeheric and helps pull air out of the crankcase.. but the main thing is just to keep from having positive pressure.
keep in mind the larger diameter or more hoses you run to the filter to turbo location the less vaccum you will be able to pull on the crankcase at part throttle.
i have a regular pcv valve on drivers rear valvecover, hose goes straight up, then through a one way valve, airflow out only into the separator canister and then t's into the main brake booster hose.
this is the vaccum source, the 1 way valve keeps boost out.
some people catch more oil than others because some people have a larger oil problem than others.
i see about 2" of crankcase vaccum part throttle and 0.0psi at full boost. i tried different configurations and it either gave me too much crankcase pressure, or not enough vaccum for me at part throttles.
if i could find a very high flow, very low cracking pressure valve.. i would like to mount that to the oil fill cap location somehow just for a backup... im working on that one.
stock oil cap is to look nice and seal the big hole in both directions
i used to have a small screen can and it def. didn't work as well as this thing from home depot.. but the two are the only things i've tried.
to all: the port on the throttlebody you cannot use for FI. cap it and put a tie wrap on it. you have to go out in front of the turbo or s/c

I went with the small one as well, that larger 3/8 filters home depot had were very heavy and I decided i will try the smaller one first.
I check my oil every week anyway, so i will check the level if there is any in the can.

It's not about being lazy, it's about having an extra four feet of hose snaking around my engine bay for nothing. That's why I asked how important it is to have vacuum in the valve cover, your setup isn't all that common.

its not for nothing, its very important
like i say easy way is to cap it and run a breather, i did it that way for years
- gm thought it was important to have vacuum in the crankcase.
also a beneifit (and my real goal) having the crankcase under vaccum is that it scavenges oil from those pesky low hanging gravity return turbos.
