Stealth airlid installed! pics and thoughts
Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the kit and its completeness. It included everything needed (even a tube of grease and all nuts/bolts). Installing it like you do a regular lid is somewhat of a pita, but if you follow the directions and install the lid+filter+base all at once, its not that bad.
The main question everyone wants the answer to is, "Is it better than my lid?". I don't have an answer to that, but I do have some simple analysis:
From a filter point of view this lid offers much more surface area, more air volume between the filter and the TB, and more area to draw in air from under the filter.
From a "neck down" point of view, it offers only a slightly larger lid->maf connection, and in my opinion air entering the intake manifold has to traverse a steeper curve than I'd like due to the shorter distance between the TB and the maf. On the plus side the transition from the lid to the lid outlet is much more gradual than most lids.
For people who are looking for the ultimate air intake setup, I think this is it. It BLOWS the FIPK away like a bad habit, and isn't worse than a normal lid. For the really serious guys (like me) I think its a must have mod. It looks really unique to boot, like a lid on steroids.

Thats a big bitch! How much more is it over a "normal" lid?
Why is it, Terry, it seems as though your ALWAYS doing something to get 1 HP or 5 more LBS out of that car.

So if you don't get any gains are you going to sell it too. j/k
Looks good.

Any seat of the pants difference?
I bet it will dyno about the same as the whisper
(I say this based on dyno tests with open 3 inch pipes on the MAF, open MAFs, lids with no filters etc. All within 1-3RWHP of each other)
Does look cool though

Terry--Aside from the appearence, what makes you think the Whisper blows away the FIPK?
From the performance viewpoint, my FIPK yielded significantly faster 60-90 MPH times vs. the stock setup and a sold 10% increase in highway gas mileage as well as a noticeable increase in throttle response at slower speeds. I must admit, however, the acceleration gains were only marginally better than the Free Ram Air mod.

Re: Stealth airlid installed! pics and thoughts
It has to do with the IAT difference between the two. Especially on the starting line and the first sixty feet. Intake Air Temps are WAY higher with the FIPK.

It also completely eliminates any possible need to remove the air filter.
I paid $285 shipped for it on GP. For guys like me that drop a lot of money on their cars, its definitely worth it.

For people who do a lot of 1/4 mile racing this is really critical in the first 60' (before you have a lot of air passing through the front of the car). If you like to do 60-90mph racing, the lid setup doesn't have as much of an advantage over the FIPK.

Re: Stealth airlid installed! pics and thoughts
it takes a while for the "cold air" properties of the K&N FIPOSK to take effect. I saw a post in the comp. section showing an attap log of a guy around me. With ambients within 5 degrees of each other his WOT run after an idle period was showing 120' IAT's. With about the same "warm up" period I think I saw 95-100' temps with my FRA and lid. I'll keep my set up. I like it
How can anyone concieve an intake set up that is SO much RIGHT in the middle of the engine bay with NO way to get fresh air from a clear path. Its retarded. Then you get guy's saying that they have gained SO much in 60-90 times. WTF?

Re: Stealth airlid installed! pics and thoughts
It may just be preferance.I like my FIPK(with FRA).I've got track improvements
and dyno improvements from it.I'd probably get the same from the stealth system.
It just depends on what you like.I was looking for more air at the time and the stealth
wasn't available yet.I'm happy with my FIPK.I'm sure the stealth will work just as well,
though.

Re: Stealth airlid installed! pics and thoughts
Well, I don't know that 3/10 of a second is so much in 60-90 times...I hoped for more like 5/10, but the average of 10 runs with a stopwatch is what it is. With an AT there is the unavoidable gear shift which certainly has to cut the performance vs. a gear box.
I certainly see the point about hot temps at idle effecting grunt times, but that's not something I'm primarily concerned with.
