header bolt stripped... how screwed am i

Default header bolt stripped... how screwed am i

Hey guys,

Started working on my headers today and in the process of removing the front most drivers-side header bolt it striped the head ... how screwed am i

anyone have thoughts or suggestions

Stripped or rounded off?

Stripped will be a pain in the but because you left the thread or broke the bolt in the head.

Rounded off, you just used the wrong size socket/wrench and rounded the bolt head; while a PITA to get out you are not as bad off...

sorry... wrong word

rounded off

but i used a 10mm socket and im pretty sure thats just what size the bolt is

Did you use a 12 point? If so, try a 6 point. It may be that you'll end up tapping a 3/8" socket onto the bolt to remove it.

THANKS SO MUCH MAN... i didnt even think about the fact that i was using a 12 point

i grabbed a 6 and it came right out

if you run into problems with rounding off bolt heads again, just remember vice grips are your friend

Glad you fixed it, CONAN broke a socket on his and round the head off, he had to do alot of grinding
