I just cut the flanges off and welded them up. Then bought the freeze plug for the intake manifold. The whole thing cost about $2 and i dont have to listen to that damn air pump anymore. I didnt notice any gas milage changes. Got rid of the codes with hptuners.

Yep, see the EGR/AIR sticky. You can trash the whole system.

It stands for Air Injection Reactor. Basically it pumps air into the exhaust to burn up residual hydrocarbons. In the olden (pre-cat) days the air was fed in right before the muffler. Later it went right before the oxidation part of the 3-way cat. They are not used anymore (my '03 does not have one). Now they accomplish the same trick by rapidly switching the AFR between lean and rich, averaging 14.7. You can see this if you hook a wideband to an unmodified vehicle. The rich period allows the reduction part of the cat to neutralize the NOx. The lean part simulates the AIR pump. If you want to learn more, look up "catalytic converter" on Wikipedia and chase through the links.

Just removed my AIR and PCV this weekend, and boy what a difference it makes. Engine bay has SO much more room. My car also idles better when it is cold. Definately worth doing IMO.

The block off plates go on the exhaust manifold/header, the freeze plug goes in the intake manifold to seal it off. You will need both.

Speed Inc. sells them, as does Kooks. Both are sponsors.

I feel kind of foolish asking this question, BUT..I need to know where to get all the AIR and EGR stuff for my 96 trans am. I wasnt sure if i needed to get block off plates for both air and egr. Where would I look? Also, how many will I need for both. Thanks

alright so one more time before ordering these block off plates... my question. I am not removing the air system.. I am removing the whole EGR Unit... I still need block off plates to remove the EGR system? Or just a freeze plug for the top of the intake?

Yes, you still need 1 EGR blockoff plate for the exhaust manifold, or you will have an exhaust leak....
