Remove MAS Screen?
BTW: I removed the screen on my 94 Trans Sport (it was held in with a c clip and came right out with no damage) and really have not noticed a difference at all. Than again, it is a minivan.
Thanks!

Anyway, it's there to straighten out air flow. IMO it does nothing but restrict air flow. I gained 19rwhp just by removing the screen. My car was running extremely rich and this leaned it up nicely. I'd remove it if I were you, but you should have atap or ls1edit if you want to do it properly.
Dan
Why would this need be hooked up to the scanner? Would the computer adjust for it in time? It would only seem to allow for air to enter quicker since it does add a little restriction. I removed the screen on my minivan without doing anything else. Even though I have not really noticed a difference in power, my gas mileage did improve by 1.
Again, is there a way to remove it without destroying it?
Thanks again!
Mike

So if the urge to jack with it comes along...... ask yourself I`m I close to 600 yet ?
You want issues ? start jacking with the MAF and get ready to reach for your wallet to pay for the correction need to actually gain that .2/1mph or whatever is claimed ........?
Good one Camaro LS1! My 02' Z had the screen also.
Know your car a little better bro' before you start giving advice!

I just stated what happened in my case. I did this mod on back to back dyno runs.
The guy who did it for me just happens to own a motorsports company and he's a professional driver (7.7x sec 1/4 Mustang). I think he knows what he's doing. I could really give two ***** what you think. I was standing right there while it occured.

All ls1 F-Body’s have a screened MAF.
Taking out the screen makes your MAF less reliable. The screen is a flow strainer. The screen smoothes out the air flow making the air inside the MAF consistent. De-screening your MAF makes the air flow kinda jumpy. Some of the air will get through the MAF, without being detected by the MAF sensors. This is what causes the A/F to change.
The HP gain that most people get is from the A/F ratio being leaner. Not because they have more air going through.
It's better just to change the A/F ratio, and not screw with the MAF.
I like my A/F ratio's in the 12's. When I had a stock car. The de-screened MAF was OK. The more I modified the car. The more problems I had. My MAF started to through lean codes. Because it wasn't consistent.
!!!Ohhh Yea!!!! The dealership will not be happy if they find out you don't have a screen. Most of the time they won't notice.
When my car was stock the first thing I did was take out the MAF screen. After I got my air lid, I started throwing codes. I took my car into a dealership and had all stock parts except my de-screened MAF. It turns out I was throwing lean codes. The dealership said I needed a new MAF. <At this point I don't think they realized I had taken out the screen.> The dealership decided to replace the MAF under warranty. When I went to pick up the car, they said parts were missing from the old MAF. My dumb *** mentioned something about the screen and the guy instantly knew I did it. He wasn't happy. He started saying I coast them over $500 and I'm lucky they don't make me pay for it. If the dealership would have noticed there is no way they would have replaced the MAF.

I think I'll just leave the damn thing alone.
For now.
i think that all of the rumors of a descreened stock MAF was on the ZO6 optioned corvette. i could be wrong though.

You are correct, the '02 (not the '01 though) Z06 does not come with a MAF screen.
I have an '00 Z28 A4, I've taken out my MAF screen and threw no codes, no idle problems, atap was perfect and the car ran a 12.8@108.43 with only a lid, thermostat (with Hypertech for fan and shift settings only), free ram air and on street tires so I have no regrets having removed it.

I have ran ported Whisper MAF ends since my car had 500 miles on it. I do have a different tranny now (YANK) .. the stock tranny was replaced after being damaged by a flexplate coming apart.. or like us medical guys like to say..
