When would the engine try push air out the intake causing the pcv valve to close?

Well consider the fact that the PCV is a valve and has the functionality of a valve. Your catchcan does not have the same functionality so you would need to keep your pcv valve to keep your system in check

I kept the PCV valve on my catch can setup, and I run a breather for an oil cap as well. I wanted to give my engine as much of a chance as I could.

I figured I want as much as I can get between the oil and the intake. I run a PCV in the stock location along with my AMW can.

I have the AMW can mounted to the head, and put the stock valve between the catch can and the throttle body using the stock wire. Works great. I will try to get a photo.

for those w/ls6 pcv systems: is it better to have the amw catch can placed after the pcv valve and then a hose from the can to the intake manifold, or run the can before the pcv valve and then the valve to the intake manifold? which route would benifit the best collection of oil and vapor? i have the can in place after the pcv valve and then a hose from the can to the intake. would it really matter?

Just a SWAG, but I am thinking that putting the valve after the catch can would be best as it would prevent all that oil from going through the PCV valve.

Well after some experimenting, I have decided that you should run the PCV valve.

I have a catch can and w/o a PCV valve oil was already catching just while idleing.
With the pcv in there Oil showing up in the catch can is way less.

The PCV valve meters the air the intake sucks in and with no valve there to restrict the vacuum you are sucking full engine vacuum through your rocker cover or LS6 Valley cover.

Just my $.02
try it if you like, and see what i saw.

i just put my pcv valve back in its stock location off the manifold and placed the catch can in between the ls6 valley cover breather tube and the valve. the can seems bone dry after 50 miles, but we will see after a few hundred if i have had the can and the pcv valve in the wrong places. the way i have it set up now seems the more logical as the valve is right at the vacumm source now...
