Default New exhaust idea!?

Hi guys! I guess this isn't much different than the X-pipe setup some of you guys are running. About a week ago I was following a guy in a LS1 SS. His car sounded like the Apocalypse was coming. His car was so loud it would shake my car and rattle my interior. I had to find out what setup he had. I pulled up next to him at a light and asked. He said he had hooker headers with two bullet mufflers with 45 deg. turndowns pointed out, no X-pipe. Man this car was loud. I have the loudmouth and I thought that was loud. I think this kind of setup would put a smile on my face. What kind of effect would an X-pipe have on this setup?

I'm still young (I guess) and this car ISN'T my daily driver (paid off!) With that said, I might go with this setup. Any one else have this kind of setup without the X-pipe? I don't care how loud the car is because that is what I want. I'm the kind of person who likes to let people know i'm coming. I'm thinking it will be really raspy, but thats what people said about the loudmouth. I love the LM and I wish it were louder. Any opinions appreciated. Later.

P.S. Today is my birthday! I'm 20!

My Album!

Without a crossover you will lose power, and have shitty ground clearance with 4" casing bullets right off the collectors, but I say go for it

I agree that running straight pipes you will lose power. Sure it'll sound awesome.

Go find some sound clips of cars with X-pipes and see if you like the way they sound. Any car can be made loud as hell....it just depends on the mods.

You can get the earth shaking sound with an xpipe, and you'll get more power out of it.

Here is a clip of mine with an xpipe. If this isn't loud enough for you then you may already need hearing aids

Yeah, I know I want to go the true dual route with X-pipe. I have never heard an F-body in person with true duals but have about 30 clips saved on my computer. I think it sounds like a Corvette with an X-pipe and Stinger exhaust which I have heard in person. I wonder what my car will look like without exhaust tips under my rear bumper? Thanks for the responses!

I've had a 73 Buick Century, a 67 Z28, a 75 Buick Skyhawk, a 76 Monte, a 77 Monte, a 75 Malibu, a 78 Malibu, a 79 Z28, and an 88 Formula... my exhaust on all of them was the same: LT Headers and Cherry Bombs! They sounded awesome, and made plenty of power. My 79 Z was the fastest out of all of those... 11.45@124 all day long (n/a). Now my newer cars all had a full exhaust, but I might try to find something new to do with the '02 T/A.

Do they still make them? How about coming out of the Grots with a cross over pipe, maybe you could tuck in two Cherry Bombs, then exit from both sides just before the rear wheels? Any comments on this?

X and H pipes quiet an engine alot and make a little more torque. As far as losing power without a crossover, you won't be losing much.
There is some truth to a crossover making power, but there is alot of hype too.

You want to talk about loud. Right now my daily driver is a '79 Chevy Blazer 400 c.i. with hooker headers, no cats, no mufflers, then exit from both sides just before the rear wheels. Imagine driving that on the freeway at 70 mph with a TH350, no OD! That is loud! I have a Monster Truck for a daily driver. I remember a guy who used to live down the street from my house. He had a 350 S.B. with no headers, manifolds, nothing connected to the engine!

Do you guys have clearance problems with your True Dual setup? I have problems with my L.M. scraping SOMETIMES on certain speedbumps and I wonder if True Duals are worse. I know it probably depends on what stuff you use. If you do scrape, let me know what stuff your using. (i.e. headers, X-pipe, bullets) Thanks!
