Default Debris on my MAF screen..K&N letting it through..concern

I have an MTI clear lid and a K&N..today, while showing somebody my car we saw little pieces of debris up against the MAF screen that slipped past the filter, should this be a concern to me, also, in spring I was going to get the Z06 85mm MAF which is screenless..without that screen this crap would be in my motor, would it burn up and not be a problem or could this be a potential problem..thanks

Yes, it should be a concern.

Most lids leak at the back. I had to install some weather stripping on mine to get it to seal properly. It took about 30 minutes to do and cost about 8 bucks.

I just recently noticed that the back of my black MTI lid doesn't seal 100%. Weather stripping did the trick. The debri most likely made it to your MAF through a gap between the lower airbox and your lid, not through the K&N filter.

That's the ticket. It leaks around the filter, not through it. The only time I've had stuff on the MAF screen was when I first (improperly!) installed the lid. Also, if using the K&N make sure you have the seal installed properly in the lid-you can always buy new weatherstripping seal and re-do if necessary.
BTW, a good test is to put some vaseline on either the filter contact surface or the lid seal, install, then remove and see if there is any lack of contact.

One problem with this "weatherstripping". I did the same thing when I realized my K&N didn't seel around the edges. But after it was on for awhile, the glue came loose and the whole freakin' thing came off, was sucked into the MAF and got stuck on my MAF screen. I didn't know it happened until I was on a dyno, and it wouldn't rev past 3500 rpms, was backfiring and blowing black smoke out the exhaust. Now imagine what would happen if I had taken my MAF screen out! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> That's why I took the K&N out and bought a Holley filter, it actually fits the air box. Just a warning about the "weather-stripping" mod.

It's the lid that doesn't seal well.

Take the strips of weather seal, and put them on the bottom of the tray that the filter sets in.
This raises the filter & the tray, and will let the factory seal on the K&N do it's job.
