Default Went to gut the cats and................

Instead of the cat unbolting from the manifold, the stud snapped! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> So, I will need to replace that stud and nut since the damn things rusted together. I am thinking I will just replace all three of them while I am at it since the other 2 will probablay snap also <img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" /> .
Damn it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
See what happnes when you can't afford headers and have to use extreme measures? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
Does anyone sell a higher quality stud/nut set for the exhaust manifolds?

i've done alot of work around exhaust systems and have found that more often than not, when you try to take those studs out, they break.

take a torch and heat up the nut until it glows red ,but dont get it so hot it melts, and the nut should come loose fairly easily.

Switch to Stainless Steel fasteners, especially in areas that are prone to rust like the exhaust system. Since you have the thing apart now is the time to make the switch to stainless

All my exhaust stuff has is stainless, even the header flange bolts. Learned the hardway a long time ago. Switch now while you can.

You can find stud & nut replacement
blister-packs that have big brass nuts.
These won't sieze internally (though
the stud will rust elsewhere, though
it's bright-plated.

Rubbing some of the silver anti-sieze
into the outside threads (not the part
into the exhaust manifold down leg -
you kind of want that to rust in place)
really delays rusting. Don't put it inside
the exhaust, though, it probably doesn't
taste good to cats.
