What is this fuel line?

the second fuel line is for EVAP.
the gasoline in the tank creates vapors. to contain these vapors, the gas tank is sealed.
when heated (warm day, exhaust heat, ect) these vapors can build pressure.
in the fbody, there is a pressure sensor. when the computer reads pressure above a specific amount, it opens the silinoid that the second "fuel line" connects to.
this vents the vapors into the motor, where they are burned.
you can ditch all that

seriously though, you'll need either a vented gas cap, or a charcoal canister... the other half of this system, is that the tank needs air to vent INTO it to displace the fuel that is being consumed.
the canister is prefered, since it lets air in and out, but doesnt let gasoline vapors escape and make your car smell like a fuel leak.

Just wanted to reopen this to be sure I understand. I've got a 98 vette ls1 that I'm replumbing for use in an rx7. My fuel rails have two quick connect fittings... The 3/8" quick connect is fuel in for the returnless rails. The 5/16" quick connect that looks like it's plumbed into the pressure balancer thing can be routed directly back to my charcoal cannister... Correct?
Do I need the solenoid to tell it when to vent?

I think the focus of this thread has been wrong. I've got a 1998 vette motor and I believe its fuel rails are the classic return style... NOT the single input returnless like most folks run.
Can anyone clarify?

on a side note, i caught a bit of extreme 4x4 on spike TV this weekend.
i enjoy the show, but i was yelling "NO stupid!! you dont need to do that!" at my tv this weekend, as they swapped the fuel rails of a LS1 to the return style rails "because our fuel cell has two ports."
