Default What is this fuel line?

I'm new to LS1. Just got mine for my Chevelle and have been removing emmissions stuff. There are 2 fuel lines one to the fuel rail. What is the other fuel line for that runs to the TB?

Disregard the box I stole this pic.

Ya see that little screw cap on top? That's to let the pressure out before you pull the fuel line.

Definitely for the Evaporation system...definitely doesn't need to dump into the manifold

So is this something I can remove? I want to ditch anything that is not necessary.

Yes...since this sounds like it is going in a conversion, you don't need it. The only gotcha on an F-body like mine is that you can't plug the pipe on ours, otherwise, you won't be able to fill the tank with gas.

the second fuel line is for EVAP.

the gasoline in the tank creates vapors. to contain these vapors, the gas tank is sealed.
when heated (warm day, exhaust heat, ect) these vapors can build pressure.

in the fbody, there is a pressure sensor. when the computer reads pressure above a specific amount, it opens the silinoid that the second "fuel line" connects to.
this vents the vapors into the motor, where they are burned.

you can ditch all that

My vapors contribute to the death of at least one baby seal per day

So I guess I don't need this. I will be running a '95 Impala tank and I'm not going to run another line from it if it is not 100% necessary. Who cares about seals anyway. It's a '71 so I can make all the fumes I want.

seriously though, you'll need either a vented gas cap, or a charcoal canister... the other half of this system, is that the tank needs air to vent INTO it to displace the fuel that is being consumed.

the canister is prefered, since it lets air in and out, but doesnt let gasoline vapors escape and make your car smell like a fuel leak.

Just wanted to reopen this to be sure I understand. I've got a 98 vette ls1 that I'm replumbing for use in an rx7. My fuel rails have two quick connect fittings... The 3/8" quick connect is fuel in for the returnless rails. The 5/16" quick connect that looks like it's plumbed into the pressure balancer thing can be routed directly back to my charcoal cannister... Correct?

Do I need the solenoid to tell it when to vent?

I think the focus of this thread has been wrong. I've got a 1998 vette motor and I believe its fuel rails are the classic return style... NOT the single input returnless like most folks run.

Can anyone clarify?

take a pic of the ones you have, and i'll tell ya if they're the rare early vette style (im pretty sure they're 97 vette only, but im not 100% on that) or the normal single inlet style that all of the other LSx car engines have.

on a side note, i caught a bit of extreme 4x4 on spike TV this weekend.
i enjoy the show, but i was yelling "NO stupid!! you dont need to do that!" at my tv this weekend, as they swapped the fuel rails of a LS1 to the return style rails "because our fuel cell has two ports."
