where to get hi-flow cats?
The 7000 series mentioned above is the newest unit. It uses a metallic substrate instead of the common ceramic. It is the smallest & highest flowing cat.

to bolt into stock(ish) exhaust cars?
Like with GM flanges & pipe? Because I
have an '02 with an SLP Y-pipe, and a
decent back exhaust setup, but stock
otherwise; since the manifolds are supposed
to be not-so-bad, maybe a little bump from
looser cats would be more worthwhile than
the whole header hassle.
Or is everything that's any good, a weld-in?

Here's 2 options...
1) Remove the stock cats, cut the flanges off & weld them to either the R.T. Metallics (700000) or the 810000 ceramics. Reinstall in stock location.
2) Remove the stock cats, install pipes in their place using the cutoff flanges. Install the same above cats in the SLP Y-pipe, if it has some straight sections in it.
The 700000s (Metallic) & the 810000s (Ceramic) are REALLY small, they'll fit into some very tight places!

As noted above these new RT's will outflow the Carsounds, the big 9000-series Random Techs, etc., and they're tiny.
Here's an old thread with pics:

The 700000s are the small shinny ones in the middle (2.5" & 3"). The 810000s are the round ones to the rear. The 820000 is the one on the right. The 920000 is the monster on the left.
