porting stock manifolds

doesnt everyone say "shorties arent worth the money cuz they are same as stock manifolds"
so if i can get my stock manifolds(which flow as well as shorties already) ported, ported manifolds would be just a tad better. i know im not going to see HUGE gains, but im keepin the stock manifolds. so im gonna make the best of them.

Flow isn't the issue with them, sure they are not great flowing but they are good enough for a modest bolt on 346ci n/a engine. Scavenging is what good exhaust tuning is all about on n/a applications. And LT's are really the only true answer to this.
Shorties will outflow stock manifolds due to their tubular design, but as I said they probably won't make many odds on a bolt on LS1. If you're going for a serious high reving h/c setup then shorties will be better than stock becuase of the better flow, but as they still won't scavenge you won't see much past 5rwhp increase.
If you want shorties and really want to remain legal you need CARB approved ones, not all of them are.
Personally I believe if you are in CA there is only one way to mod a car - FI. I believe some of the procharger kits are CARB approved. These will work fine on stock manifolds and well over 400rwhp should be attainable. Shorties will actually work very well on FI however, as svavenging doesn't take place and flow rate is more important. On a boosted LS1 the extra flow rate of the shorties will be worth it and would probably show somewhere in the region of 20+rwhp increase over stock manifolds.

why don't you get your car smogged, then bolt up long tubes and an ory. then throw your stcok stuff back on come smog time again. I mean it is not like the exhaust is going to be rusted together.

x2!
my buddy got pulled over for nothing, just picked him out and made him pop his hood, saw the longtubes. they were about to tow him, so im not gonna risk it, true a lot of people get away with it, but for how long

just to let you know pacesetter has pretty much the cheapest shorties on the market.... and they're coated, if that what your looking for. i have them and they flowed great but im putting LT's on in a month.... pm me if your intested cuz they're not a sponsor (pacesetter is but not the shop)

The reason for porting stock manifolds would be to save some $$. Hinson supercars can port them for $75 I believe. $75 is alot cheaper than you'll find shorties for. I spoke with them awhile back and I think they said the porting was good for 10-12 rwhp. If the 00-02's manifolds are nearly as good as shorties, then wouldn't porting put them in the same league for only $75?
