Default Anyone seal Airbox to hood & !belllows?

I have a SLP HO hood and like the Ws6 hood, it has baffles to keep out water. I think the ram effect would work a whole lot better if I cut out the baffles and possibly sealed the lid's intake to the hood with some foam or something.

Anyone do this and did they noticed any performance increase or is it just a waste of time?

Also what is the easiest, cheapest way to seal the airbox? (I thought maybe by using some foam on the hood.

Back in the NA days I did remove the baffles.
Could feel a bit of a difference, never had any problems in the rain either. I to made a spacer-seal assy at the time to seal the the lower air box to the hood.

The WS6 hood has the little nostril baffles, then the big one behind them that more or less eliminate any ram air effect you might have. I took out the back one and left the little ones to keep from sucking in rain.

The foam idea will work, but you'll have to replace it as the foam breaks down/off. May I suggest weatherstripping?

i tried a few foams \ weatherstripping and cant seem to get a good fit does anybody know where i can but a 1 inch foam with and strong adhesive backing all lowes sells is 1\4 inch and 1\2 inch

i tried a few different variations but it never really worked well

btw i have my bafffles removed and it seems ok but i barely drive my car so mabye ive just been luckey.. although i would think the airfilter could easliy catch the 1 or 2 drops of water that m ihgt make it up in there with no baffles

Let me know what you come up with, I was thinking of doing the same thing. I have done the baffle mod already, but never sealed to the box.

Do you have a lid? I noticed on mine that is goes straight to the bottom where the inlet is and I have thought about removing the baffles and trying to seal it too. The hardest part of sealing it seems like being able to see exactly where the hood hits and if it is actually sealing. I am not really liking the idea of the rain even though it may be minor. On a daily driver that would suck to be the one person it happens to.

IIRC it was Patrick G that used a composite material (for lack of a better term) to seal his hood he got 2, 1/2" pieces of the material, cut out a hole to match the inside of the hood, glued them together, and screwed it to the hood (using the rivet holes) and used some thin foam to seal it tight to the airbox, all the materials were purchased from Lowes
It looked pretty stock too he painted it black, and it blended right in

Thanks for info guys. What would be the problem of water getting into the intake? I don't think there would be any problem. I would assume that it would just get boiled off.

Here's a link to a little ram air that I made out of sheet metal. I also removed the rain baffles from the hood by drilling out the rivets then slowly and carefully pryed out the baffles. Be careful when removing the baffles because they're epoxied to the fiberglass. As for the effectiveness of the ram air, I didn't really feel anything but it did seem to lower my IAT's a few degrees. I could take it a step further and tape the sheet metal to the bottom of my air box and possibly even spraying some high temp coating on the sheet metal so it doesn't absorb heat fromt he radiator but I just haven't gotten around to messing with it anymore. As for water, I don't drive my car in the rain but I'd imagine it's take a massive downpour or driving through a huge puddle to do anything. Anyways, here's the link to pictures.

All I did was get a piece of sheet metal from home depot, measure the air box, and cut 2 pieces of the sheet metal that I could bend into a rectangle to fit the air box. I cut flanges for the face (to match up to the hood) and then bent the sides to create the rectangle. I held it all together with a hand held pop riveter and I used adhesive backed rubber to cover the flanges where it'll meet up with the hood.

I attached a word file that gives some directions but honestly I think they overcomplicated it. The pictures can help give you an idea of how to construct it. If the file doesn't work pm me and I can e-mail it to you.
