Question Most HP IN CATBACK

I know this must have been covered before. Which catback gives you the most HP gains? Most people seem to think the Magnaflow? I read a post that said they had very good flow. I have stock SS system on my 2000. What about LMII for weight savings and HP? I run this as a street/strip car and drive to work with it a couple of days a week 5 miles. Any recommendations appreciated.

LMII would provide the least restriction since there's no muffler involved...all other systems involve a muffler so the differences would be minimal

That true dual system looks tight, very custom. The LMII with low restriction and ease of install and weight savings seems like the way to go. Am i right or wrong? It seems like all the systems are 4-500 dollars unless you get into the high end Borla's.

I want the most HP with good sound also. I am not too concerned about the noise as i do not drive it all the time on the street. I am looking for tenths now. I am putting gears and a converter next week in that will put me well in the Heavy class (8.69 or better) IHRA in the 1/8th. If i can pick up a couple of more with an exaust system i will do it. Thankyou

i have seen a study on this question but forgot the site, they tested all the known catback systems for f-bodies witch consisted of about 10 or 12 different companies and the highest flowing system was slp lm, im sure a lm2 is the same but i think depending on the mods done to your car, i the power difference will be mininal, all i remember is that slp lm was the highest flowing and flowmaster was the worst, if your car is stock and you plan to keep it that way i would go for sound.

I made great power gains with an SLP Loudmouth. However, if you ever get LT's or anything the sound is way to loud (trust me).

I think the Hooker is a decent system as well. Every car is different and unless you get a custom dual setup, most cat-backs will perform the same performance wise.

Thanks for the advice. The only mods i have now are Pulley/LID/FILTER/TB BYPASS/LOW TEMP THERM/SLP DIABLO TUNE/REAR END COVER/GIRDLE BOGART/Mickey THOMPSON ET STREETS. The 3:73 gears and 3600 Converter are going in next week to help with the 2 inch height change with the new tires. I am running 8.50 now with the street tires. Hopefully high 7's with the gears/converter and tires. So now i am looking to do my exhaust next.

You cant go wrong with a custom dual setup imo.. If you go LM and decide to do headers later on, most systems sound raspy and just sound like sh*t... have you looked into a cut-out.. those will give you noticeable gains as well as a little bit of sound lol... and theyre pretty cheap ;-)

Yes i am thinking of just going with manual cutouts also. I've been reading the posts about them but i still cannot figure out the best place to put them, before the Y-pipe, I pipe 1 cutout, under the rear seat 2 cutouts? I'll have to take a look under my car later and compare. I just thought with a nice catback it would save some work.

Loudmouth. You will not gain over a stock SS system going to a magnaflow. Trust me I know.

If you see any tangible gains from a catback then you are doing pretty good. Unless you're going to make big power don't buy a catback for its performance, but for the sound. Moreover, if you are making big power with a catback you would probably end up running a cutout anyway.

Are saying to get LM (10% off now) and cutouts OR are you saying keep stock SS Exhaust and get QTP cutouts?

+1

I have LT's, ORY, and LM basicly, and I ordered a spintech 3" in, 2 1/2" dual out muffler to fab into the stock location (which I'm currently waiting on). It's just too much, especially around 2500 rpm. I was attracted to the light weight, and the great flow of a single bullet.
