Wink Best fitting Catted Y pipe ?

A little while ago I installed a QTP catted Y pipe and let me tell you, It sucks major butt. I know I have the option of getting a custom Y pipe made but Im curious to see which company makes the best fitting catted y.

Thanks for everyones opinion!

I have that y-pipe, and yes it was a PITA.

After getting the new HVMCs, I replaced the cats' and hung both of them off the collectors, unlike the original QTP design. After cutting the floor a little bit ( a 4" X 2" section ) I have been able to get better clearance.

The thing I don' t like with QTP' s design is they put the driver' s side cat' in damn near the middle of the floor, under the car. I make negotiating speed bumps and driveways tricky, to down-right impossible without rubbing. I replaced the cats' with Magnaflow 5XXX series 3" cats' and positioned the driver' s side on the collector, like the passenger' s side. After I cut the floor crossmember ( which is just a stamped sheetmetal piece ) I was able to push the cat' a bit higher, bringing the y-pipe up a little more, and got some more clearance at the middle of the car, helping with speed bumps and driveways.

I am trying to get some images on my Cardomain page if you are interested in seeing what I am talking about.

I like the QTP y-pipe though, because of the size and collector. There' s just not enough room for it

It does tuck up nice. But, it is a little flattened, like the stock one. Probably doesn' t matter too much.

I do know that my car dyno' d almost 10 more RWHP than another with Kooks. BUT, mine was an A4, his a M6, and I have a Borla, and he had a B&B. My open cutout may have had a little effect on that.

I will definately agree it fits better than QTP though.

i have the SLP Y-pipe and i gotta say with the prokit my ground clearance is pretty good . . . . except when i find a speed bump thats alot higher than normal!!!! and i did get good power gain from that Y-pipe but i also got it installed with the Loudmouth exhaust at the same time so droppin the muffler and flat y-pipe made me feel the difference, still need to dyno the car yet someone hit me i've had the car a year now and haven't dynoed it yet

I hope you can get those pictures. I would love to see how it turned out. And I was also thinking about placing the other cat right after the header.

Or have an exaust shop make a straight section of pipe after the header and then put the cat there and then have then make another piece that will connect teh cat with the flowmaster collector....

If you're using the stock manifolds, Bassani makes an awesom bolt on y -pipe that bolts directly to the manifold studs. That's what I did, it got rid of the flat spots that stocker has and is set up for the o2 sensors. It comes with or w/o cats, about 500 bucks with cats. sound great with magnaflow attached to it. All can be done yourself in a weekend. another tip, once you have cats off, change plugs7&8 from underneath. somewhat easier. iF your'e going the header route disregard all said above, but maybe someone can get some use out of it.Remember sawzall, 9/16 socket, 15mm socket/ratchet, beer. and patients. good luck.Any questions email at jwmmac1@charter.net or phone 262- 723 8875, cell 262-745-8604.

just curious what is wrong with your y-pipe? does it not fit well with the headers or is it banging on your floorboard? i have a kooks catted y and fittment was excellent, and tucks up nicely to the underneath of the car, it banged alittle on the floor board but i just heated it up and bent it a liitle for some more clearance.

I was surprised how close the Kooks y fit. It fit really tight, you have to pull it down so it doesn't touch the floorboard and then tighten it. Almost stock like ground clearance. Really similar to the stocker, just higher up, and bigger too.
