In part this is true. loss of torque directly relates to the amount of backpressure there is when talking about exhaust. however when comparing Y pipe to True Duals the diameter of the pipe will be the deciding factor. if you go with bigger pipe then what is needed in any application then torque will be lost. however, in general, the better the exhaust flows the more HP you will gain.

Ok so how do you know what size piping will be needed?

depends on HP. If you're limited on space then obviously smaller is better. 2.5 inches is good for most applications under 400 HP. 3" is needed above for cars. Smaller pipes is good for trucks as stated above because of the torque loss resulting from too little back-pressure

From what I've researched and seen on this site over the years, thats pretty vague. You will lose more low/mid range, but overall with true duals you are sacrificing backpressure for scavenging. Scavenging is what helps promote the flow in your exhaust, thus a greater increase in horsepower and torque. It probably would depend on your sizing of pipe too. I'm running TDs with 3inch pipe though, and I can honestly say I didn't notice any low/mid range loss. 3inches is definitely overkill, and I'm sure I am making less power in that range than I would be with smaller piping, but its still greater than stock, and my top end power has all the room in the world to breath. I believe bassani's 2.5in. TD kit picks up a lot of torque over a borla or whatever it was tested against from a user on here.

Basically from a performance aspect, you can't go wrong with TD's. Read deeper into this thread, scavenging>backpressure

Also important to note is an internal combustion engine thrives on combinatorics so you ain't going nowhere with sewer pipes and boltons.

I want to run LT's to tsp duals with cats and mufflers and still run it out the side instead of dumping to reduce drone. Is this possible???

I'll edit this post and add pics one I finish painting the tailpipes flat black.

This exhaust is 3" Mandrel bent, over the axle with X-pipe and Hooker Aerochamber mufflers.
Excellent ground clearance and sound.
Driver's side muffler is in the stock location, passenger side is between TTop and Spare tire wells. (2" x 3" BFH work required)

Materials:
- 4 Dynomax/Hooker 3" Mandrel U bends (I have 4 left over in my for sale thread)
- 1 Jegs Universal 3" X-pipe kit
- 2 Hooker Aerochamber 3" in/out Mufflers

How did you get that muffler to fit on the passenger side?

BFH

Look closely at the second image, you can see where the work was done.
2" deep, 3" wide to the ttop well (Plastic Ttop holder still fits, LOL)
2" deep, 2" wide to the spare tire well. (spare tire still fits ... although it's rarely in there)

Will also add a vid, it's been too windy this week to get a decent one.

I don't know about mufflers unless you modify your floorboards but any cats will fit under there fine and with some clever routing you're good to go.
