Looks like the torque arm is in the way. He would have less ground clearance if he went under it.

That is an awesome setup! I have tried to find a exhaust shop in town that is up to the challenge of going over the axle with dual 3" pipes. So far no one want to give it a shot. Back up plan is to buy the kooks system.
Does your axle hit the pipes since your have lowering springs?

not at all! not hitting or rattles like my old set up... not gonna lie though, it took about 3 weekends, and lots of beer to compensate my best friend who happens to be a great welder and mechanical engineer. It took some dedication to say the least.

In hindsight if I knew how time consuming it would be to get it RIGHT, with proper clearances etc, the R&D with the kooks system is worth every penny.

Sure it was "only" $450ish in materials, but it was time consuming. Unless you are truly dedicated to tackle it, and get it done right, I would recommend the kooks system. I did custom, just because I had the resources, and with my MWC rear, and other components, I didn't know if I would have to modify anything.

Yes, but I don't remember, plus I changed other things too, so It wouldn't be true back to back.

Mid range power picked up a TON though by seat of the pants

Well decided to redo my 2.5 y pipe and go with a 3 inch y to dual 2.5 over the axel to some 6 inch long race bullets i have and dumps before the rear bumper to hid everthing. I picked up 2 8 foot peaces of 2.5 and 3 inch pipe for just over $40 and 2 hangers that were 3.99 a peasce.. so my set up on my 6 speed 02 camaro is full bolt on, 228/234 112 cam, 1 7/8 headers, and a moser 12 bolt with a 411.. dyno with the stock 10 bolt was 396/374 and never dyno with the 12 bolt so probably like 370's-380's. But is was through a 2.5 y pipe to a slp 2 to single 2.5 over the axel that slit to 2.5 duals.. sounded good but cant be that good for hp! so fair to yesterday this is what i got with just pie cutting and welding the 3 inch and the 2.5.. after the merge of the 3 inch its going dual 2.5 over that axel.. I know a bunch of ppl will say it will flow like **** and what not but hay i hade the bullets so its coasted meabout $50 for the hole thing. It should b done later today

I like it other than the 3" merge to single and then split again into dual 2.5's. Y not just go with reducers and H pipe? I guess it's too late now though.

Kooks long tube 1 3/4" x 3" headers with the Kooks true-dual non-catted 3" exhaust, BMR driveshaft safety loop and BMR panhard rod relocation kit. Gain about 45hp, jumping to 407 engine and 334 rear wheel. Real pleased with the good work Doug Rippie Motorsports did in installing it.

Oh yeah man. With parts, install, tune, and dyno it all ran me about $4K. And that's with DRM giving me a hell of a deal on the install/tune/dyno.

Props to you. I had a cam and American racing headers installed for that price. But, I've heard the kooks set up. Sounds sick!

So I bought a car from a member here. I've always been used to my stock 99 SS with SLP dual duals.

The 98 Z28 I bought is far from stock and puts down well over an extra 100hp to the wheels. While I love the way the car sounds, it is far too loud to be my daily driver. The car has Speed Inc 1 7/8" long tube race headers running into an H pipe (no cats) with Sweet Thunder mufflers dumped before the rear axle. Conversation in the car is difficult (near impossible during acceleration) and makes listening to music over the car impossible. And the drone in high gears is horrific.

I've been reading up the past few days about exhaust setups and the quietest mufflers. It seems the popular opinion are Magnaflows. Would changing to Magnaflows be enough to make the cabin of the car tolerable for conversation and music? I'm fine with the car terrifying children and the elderly at WOT, I just want it tolerable in the cabin and bearable on long drives.

The problem with magnaflows or any other chambered muffler is going to be their size. I toyed with the idea of using chambered mufflers on my TD build and I just couldn't make them fit. Obviously it's not impossible, but I just couldn't do it. Some guys beat the heck out of their floor pans to make them fit, which I looked at but I think it was the return style fuel lines on my 98 that didn't agree with that.

I think I'll have to tuck my bullet mufflers a little more (somehow) if I'm ever going to put some different coil springs on. I have no idea how anybody could have a lowered car with td's.

I've got magnaflows with modified rear seat buckets and they sound fantastic. Only problem is where they are dumped before the axle. I think you're going to have to get it piped out the back of the car to achieve what you want. I have a straight piped vette with corsa extreme axlebacks that I daily drove no problem with conversation and music. Being piped out the back is the key for what you want.

Do you have pics of the rear seat area modification?
