Default F@&*#^% Car Won't Start After Header Install. HELP!!!

Alright, guys I promise I used the search feature before psoting this. Here are the details.

I recently installed Kooks LTs with ORY on my 2000 Z. Along the way I changed the motor mounts threw out the EGR and AIR, changed the oil, the Thermostat, changed spark plugs and wire, and did a TB bypass.

The long and short of it is that the car will now not start, it turns overbut doesn't start.

Things I have checked: crank sensor, battery, alternator, starter, gas and fuel pump, all wires (the only ones that are not connected are the two that are left from removing the AIR and EGR; one on the driver's side and one on the passenger's), also I checked some fuses.

Finally I got a spark tester, and when I tried starting the car it didn't seem like I was getting any spark (i.e. my friend nor I saw and spark passing through the tester when the other was attempting to start the car). So WTF is wrong what did I do/not do, I am pretty sure he spark plugs themselves are good (they are new). How do I get my car to run? I am so pissed I spent the last 5 hours in swelttering TX heat checking all the f***ing wires and other miscellaneous items. Please help, I would really like to get my car running again.

Your help is greatly ppreciated as always.

Check the plug wires & all connections on the coil packs. Your stock plug wires should click when on properly. Also did you get O2 extensions & plug them in the correct spots??

Well shoot - know anybody with a scanner to check for codes - or a parts store that will let you rent one?

What BIGMIKE said. Make sure the coil pack harness wires are hooked in. It's easy to miss those after a long install.

I am pretty sure I heard all of them click when putting them on (I went with the MSD wires too cause I kinda butchered the stock ones when taking them out). I did get O2 extensions for the fron two sensors plugged them in where the fron O2 sensors had been previously and plugged the O2 sensors into them and then bolted them to the header. The rear O2s required not extension and I plugged them in where they had been previously and bolted them to y-pipe until I can get them erased. I don't know if I mentioned this but this is an off-road setup.

Like I said earlier it seems the problem is that I am not getting a spark, and I am pretty sure the wires or at least the ones I tested were well connected to the coil packs at the time of the test.

2001 NBM: don't really know anyone with a scanner in this area, I just moved here for grad school. There is some sort of get together for a local car club tonight I'm going to check that out and see if anyone there has one.

Not the individual spark wires... the main harness that branches out to the 4 coils on each side. (1 connection per side.)

You said its a spark problem and this is a little stupid, but you did plug the EGR hole in the intake manifold?

There was a guy who had some major problems with his car getting no spark after a header install (Scottyz or something I think?) I believe it turned out his engine temp sensor wasn't plugged in or something crazy like that.

Make sure that thing is plugged in on the drivers side head, and reset the PCM.

To reset the PCM turn the key on, pull the PCM IGN and PCM BATT fuses in the engine bay fuse block.
let it sit for 10-15 mins with the key still on.
then turn the key off
and put the fusese back.

then try to start it, hope this helps!

my car did exactly the same thing. would crank but it had no spark(it was out of the blue though i didnt add or change anything on the car). if everythings connected then check the crank posistion sensor, thats what went bad on mine. its odd that it would go with a header install maybe you bumped it or it just for some reason went right at the same time.

Would the coil pack harness wires be unhooked if I left the coil packs on during the install? Because I don't recall unhooking them and after having taken a look in the engine bay I don't see any blatantly unhooked wires (the only unhooked wires are the ones left after removing the AIR and EGR, one one each side of the engine).

EGR is plugged.

Engine temp sensor is plugged in (as long as thats the one right by the #1 spark plug).

Will try resetting PCM using those steps.

Is the crank position sensor the one that's right across from the starter, plugged into the tranny?

Thanks for the help and keeping it coming guys.

Okay I think we are talking about the same thing. How would I know if it went out or if its still good though. I am sure I nudged more than once when I took out the starter, but I don't know if that would have been enough to fug it up.

idk i didnt even hit mine and it went at 6x,xxx miles so who knows. i dont know how you can get it tested i asked a few placed with no luck. i just bought it (the guy at the dealer said that it was the most likely part) and a new cam sensor together off ebay for like 20$ i think... i didnt use the cam sensor but it was cheaper with both off ebay then the dealers price for just the crank sensor . fired right up soon as i put it in though. there is a relay i would check first though, under your fuse lid you should have a picture of all the fuses try putting a relay from another spot(theres a few that are the same type of relay)into the ignition relay spot, see if that fixes it.maybe some one on here knows how to test the sensor. i asked around a lot of places and they looked at me like i was talking chinese.

Okay, just to specify the crank position sensor is located to the left of the starter when looking towards the front of the vehicle right? It is not the wire you plug in that is right above the starter (i.e. you have to take the starter off just to get to it)?

Basically the starter doesn't need to come off to get to the crank position sensor, correct?

In regard to the ignition fuse I had found that suggestion while doing some searches prior to posting and had switched it with the AC (i believe) fuse of the same size and that didn't help.

So I guess i am now just awaiting clarification on where the crank position sensor is located.

Thanks for all the help, and kep it coming.

Coil pack harness wires are plugged in on both sides.
PCM reset.
Car still own't start.
Any other reasons that you can think of for why I am not getting spark?
Have yet to do the crank sensor, I don't want to shell out 40 bucks for a part that i am not even sure is broken.

You might have to, worst thing is its a non returnable part. I have seen them go out on other cars before also.

The CKP sensor is behind the starter, you'll have to remove it in order to replace it. Then you'll have to reset the PCM again to see if it'll work, if not there's a CKP relearn procedure that takes a scan tool. Would be easier if someone could scan for codes so you'd know exactly what's going on. If you live near a Harbor Freight they sell a code reader for under $50.
