Rasp and Drone
can someone clearly describe to me what these sounds are? I thought I knew, but now Im not too sure.
I always thought rasp is an annoying or a sloppy onboxious, ricer type of sound. such as a fart cannon on a ricer. and drone is a solid note a car has at a certain RPM that is annoying to hear, like a low tone buzz or so.
can someone clarify what Drone and rasp is?
while we are at it, what is throaty and deep and ricer and all these terms?
edit : I looked up the term Rasp or Raspy is a harch grating type of sound, yet people call the Loudmouth Raspy. I dont think that is what Rasp is.
I was correct about drone
and I am pretty sure throaty means deep and agressive type of sound.

In general people use them to mean absolutly anything. And the mojority of the time incorrectly.
Rasp and drone are both in the Oxford English Dictionary. However their use for describing LS1 exhaust notes is often bafferling.

for example. I have drone when I at 75 mph on the freeway in 6th gear ( slightly under 2000 RPM (3.42 final drive ratio) its a solid, deep note I hear ( kind of reminds me a 5.0s exhaust for some reason) anyways, that is drobe for you. but I dunno how to describe rasp. and I dunno how to describe LT + ORY + LM. but it just sounds nasty and sloppy/unclear.

To explain raspy, listen to just about any Ls1 that is fast. lol It's like when the exhaust no longer sounds deep and rumbly, it becomes more high pitched and just loud. Mustangs have a deep rumble, Lt1's have a nice rumble, Ls1's are raspy... if they all had a similar exhaust with similar mufflers that is. Or another example, bullet mufflers are raspy, spiral mufflers are deeper sounding. And drone is the constant hummmm you would hear at higher speeds mostly with a louder exhaust or a cutout.

rasp usually occurs when you let off the gas - kind of like a rapid, high pitched, crackling sound (think chainsaw). Drone is just the annoying, vibrating, resonating tones that you hear at constant RPM while on the highway.

rasp: straight pipes/GMMG/SLP loudmouth during mild acceleration, very sharp and hurts the ears, sounds like crap
drone: straight pipes/GMMG/SLP loudmouth at a constant crusing speed, its a constant bass inside the car that actualy hurts your ears

In 6 - 8 months, when I do a cam install. I will do a true dual install. Until then I want a quick solution.
WIll the Dynomax reduce rasp to a decent amount?
God I miss the way the LM sounded on stock manifolds.!

rasp with LM usually happens between 2000 rpm and 2700 rpm under mild acceleration, only way I can really describe it is it sounds like a machine gun. For me it drones around 1700 rpm but doesnt bother me too much.
