any suggestions got lm1 and lid now which is gonna be better headers performance wise installation wise and and difference in sound????

 

if your talking about mac mids don't waste your time. Long tubes or don't bother.

I have the Mac mids and I like them. Easy to install and work great. i read that you will gain like 2hp going from Mac mids to longtubes. Woooo

 

I've heard the gain is quite a bit more than 2 hp, but Mac mids are a viable option and have been proven to make great power. If emissions aren't a problem, I'd go with the Pacesetters. They should be close in price and the LT's will make more power......not a lot more, but ~5-10.

 

Go with the Pacesetters they are some of the easiest headers to install.

 

Look, your going to spend money on your car, right? And you want to get headers so that your car performs and sounds better. Well, I always like to research before I spend money on my car. If you did some research, which should be fairly easy b/c exhaust info is covered extensively on this site, you would find out it is a proven fact that LT's gain significantly more hp than shorties or mids on our cars. So if you are going to spend money on your car looking for a power and a sound increase, why not just do it right the first time??

I can't even count how many people I have seen on these boards curse themselves for not getting long tubes the first time.
I would recommend pacesetters. I am biased, but I, along with many others, truely believe that they are definitely the best bang for the buck. Mine are great quality and they cost me like $500 w/ an ORY.

I am making pretty good power with my MAC headers and Magnaflow exhaust but I bought mine about 4 years ago. If I were to do it now I would get a set of LT's for sure since they are so cheap now. I think I paid the same price for my MAC's as the Pacesetters. You always have the ebay headers to as an option.

 

you are going to get more torque from the long tubes via the collector and its length. really does not matter which brand. i am sure they both have 3/8 flanges and the welds are good.

 

macs are good for stock cubes, anything larger and you'll need at least lt's with at least a 3" collector and 1 3/4" primaries

 

I had Macs for about 4 years and just switched to long tubes. The Macs make good power but the sound is better and less raspy with the long tubes. On the plus side for Macs they won't come near to hitting the K member and the ceramic coating (if you get it) will last longer on Macs cause they don't sit underneath the car. Coated longtubes always peel underneath the car by the collectors fist.

Macs just don't scavenge as much as long tubes, so the midrange tq is down slightly. Here's a before/after MACs vs Long Tubes from the Exhaust FAQ

 

^^You put a Real cam in that thing and the difference will continue to grow in favor of the long tubes.

 

what are "grott' headers? how long was the collector? who did the test? were any or some of the tubes port matched? what was the size of the tubes.

hey if there isn't much difference then why not shorties? why bother with the extra weight of full headers; oh yea because they work. this is simple if you can't run long tubes get the mid length as a second best choice.

 

I have the macs and i like them, but i will be switching to longtubes. There is more potential to be had w/longtubes and i don't want to leave any power on the table.
