Duals vs SIngle C/B.... Weight and HP
I was thinking.
What is the weight difference between a regular C/B exh like lets say Magnaflow, and a regular true dual exhaust? If TD's gain about 10hp over a regular exh system.
if 10lbs = 1hp. is the weight gain worth the HP gain, or does it even out? Extra sound and maybe an actual street/track gain of 5hp....

Hmm... I would think that dual would be a little lighter actually. I never weighed mine vs the old catback. If you have a dual system dumped at the rear axle you would have less tube since its not going over the axle, you replace that big muffler with smaller ones, and probrably would have no cats either, and no tips. I don't think there is going to be a big weight difference either way, but my guess would be that the duals would be less. 2.5 duals would be even less.

It depends which muffler for duals. If you go with a single dual-in dual-out muffler for True Duals, it's going to weigh very close to a catback, just the extra piping going back to the muffler and out. If you were to run bullets and dumps, it might actually come in lighter than a catback. Either way you are gaining more tq with duals that outweighs the minor weight advantage.

It places a single dual-in dual-out muffler in the stock location, then runs duals into it, and duals out of it. It's a compact way of running true duals on these cars, considering the packaging contraints.
I had the Bassani system on my car and gained 20 lb/ft of tq in the midrange over the stock ypipe setup. It sounded and performed awesome.

"This is why i just stuck a bullet off each header. I saved the most weight while making the most power."
and what setup/power are you running? i see in your sig you run 9s....if so then you dont need the backpressure like bayer-z28 and the rest of us runnin 12 sec range 1/4 miles.....we need to take advantage of scavenging, or else thats what i would do- anyone object to that????????

1) Back pressure is bad. It does not help whether you run 9's 12's or 15's.
2) Scavening is good, but the right headers with the proper extension will create that all by themselves.
The goal of the Y-pipe or duals is to get rid of the exhaust far enough back for safety, reducing the noise to a level you deem acceptable, while creating as little back pressure possible.

+1^ i think open headers perform better then any dual setup... as ive tried a few of both and open headers makes the engine rev alot faster...... the only thing i wouldnt like about just open headers is the smell(even though my ms4/stage 1's going through big kooks smells beautiful and sounds like the devil reincarnated) the noise is also still an issue after 20 or 30 mins of driving. not sure how accurate this info is, sure heard it alot though- but without some extensions on the headers the o2's dont last as long.. and on a prevois car- 84 z28-355ci it smelled badly with open headers badly of unburnt fuel and had big backfires when letting off the gas..

I just got Lanes true duals and they seem pretty heavy but I can tell the only reason why is because of the Flopro Twister mufflers. Jeez they weigh alot. I'm about to replace them though so after I do that, I bet it will be lighter or the same as my GMMG catback

750/800 spray
You can go ahead and jump on the backpressure train hype, but i don't believe in it all that much. My car has neck snapping torque and power. I gained torque with this setup vs a single straight pipe/ Y pipe setup. Most of the fastest N/A LS1 guys are running either extensions or bullets off each header.

Doesn't that outweigh the lack of backpressure of open headers? You could argue the same reason not to run shorties and go with long tubes, because shorties don't scavenge...
For example, if you were to run open headers, let's say you're at 400 rwtq. But if you were to run true duals with xpipe crossover, you'd be higher, at 410 rwtq, for instance. Wouldn't running duals make the most power, not open headers?
You could make the argument that NHRA drag cars run open headers, not duals. But they are hardly lacking for hp, they can make whatever hp is legal with the parts required in their class, I don't think they need to run duals, for them the simpler the better.
