Default QTP and Kooks y-pipe interchangable?

like the title says... i have QTP headers and am wondering if a Kooks Y-pipe will fit. i'm pretty sure the header designs are similar so i'm figuring it might work. i tried searching but search only picks up peoples signatures

thanks
Jacob

Well most things will fit with a BFH. I bet that you have to tweak it slightly just like any exhaust setup. It is a miracle getting anything to fit "right" without some modification.

Search filters out signatures.

You will probably have to cut/weld something at least once to make it work, but you could do it. It would probably be easier/cheaper to just have a custom one built.

thats weird... my search only picks up signatures and it kills me with searches of acronyms like qtp, ttp, umi....

anyways thats what my buddy has been telling me. get a custom built y-pipe with a nice merge collector. the only thing is theres only one custom exhaust shop i know of around here that has a mandrel bender and i don't like them. had a bad experience there and dont plan on going back. maybe i'll just stop being a baby and get a qtp y.

I have seen this question pop up a bit here and there and the results are always the same- pretty much no. Like Blur said,

Y pipes are usually designed to be compatible with the company who makes the headers and are usually tested that way also in regards to flow and #'s. Im sure you could try making it fit, it'd be nice- both are stainless, but Im positive you'd have to make some modifications. I went to my shop who does SS tubing with custom mandrel bends and they couldnt on me which they claimed they made, and were also priced out for me at $1300, labor not included. I said F-That and just got myself some Kooks and catted-y. Good luck though!

gotcha... i heard somewhere that kooks and qtp has the same header designs with only minor changes. i figured maybe then the y-pipes would work. i wish i had some better tools and such to make my own y-pipe

Depends on the collector... but there isn't a cure-all y-pipe design out yet...

i would suggest a custom y pipe(or try the Kooks) over the QTP one, i was happy with my headers, but the y pipe was a mess

y-pipes suck. i'm gonna just get the qtp y-pipe thats not stainless, supposedly fits like crap, and costs a mortgage payment.

I have a dual QTP cut out Y pipe for sale with the motors. I could save you some money. PM me if interested. It's in the FS section.

The trick to make the Kooks Y fit the QTP headers is to either cut 1" off the collector, or cut 1" to 2" off the slip fit on the y-pipe and have it re-expanded so it slips farther up the collectors.

If you do not trim it, then it bang the floorboard like crazy. Make the necessary trims, and it fits like a glove with no banging.
