What temp should 160* t-stat run at?
My car runs at 180* and I just wanted to see what everyone else is running at. Seems high for a 160* stat to me. I could be wrong though. Reasonning for the post. I feel like I may have a 180* stat in and want to check what it really is since I thought I bought a 160* stat.
TIA

Good news is I don't have to swap it out then. Bad news is where the hell did my power go yesterday at the track? I thought it was hot and KR was kicking in but I did not log since it was cold and did not feel this before. So???

Even if you have a 160 T-stat.. if you engine wants to run hotter than 160.. it will continue to raise in temp until the Fans come on or you are at speed. What also must come into play is when the Fans come on.. have they been programed to come on at 180 or what ever you want to keep the engine at. A stock T-stat is most likely 195 and the fans come on around 223 deg.
You may have lost power due to your Fuel table wanting to be run at a higher temp and you should look into having your PCM and Fuel tables reprogrammed for the lower Temp that your engine is now running at and never reaching the correct temp for the Fuel Tables and peak performance.

I should have noted that the car is tuned for the stat and fully dyno tuned.
Seams we have determined I do in fact have a 160* stat so thanks for your help.
Now I am looking for help on my power problem. The temp was in the mid 40s I would say with cool downs between runs. The car reached full operating temp as I pulled to the burnout box. I only made 3 passes thanks to the rain. 1st pass spun and trapped 117.89, next missed 3rd and trapped 117.9, 3rd pass no spin, perfect through the gears and only trapped 106??? Car felt weak and fell on it's face on launch. You can see from my previous two runs there is a 120+ in it easy on a clean pass. After I left the car felt strong again. Any speculation on what may have been wrong? No SES light and the temp looked normal on the gauge. I have hot lapped the car without problems before on much warmer days.

On cool days like today (it was 40*F this morning), my car sticks between 167~169*F on the highways. In traffic, it'll get up into the 180's. Like mentioned above, it'll depend on the weather and where your fans are set to come on.

After hearing all this I'm starting to think something is wrong with my set up. I have a 160 stat and my temp gage is still reading 208 at all times. It's tuned for the stat also. Is everybody running a different gage than the factory one? p.s not trying to hijack, just another question since everbody is on the temp questions.

Another thing, what most people don't understand about a thermostat-the temp it is rated at is where the stat just begins to open. It will not be full open until at least 7 to 10 deg. higher, and that is what the engine will run at, IF your fans are programmed for the lower temp as well.

if you're watching the stock guage, then that's what it's going to read. i have an autometer water temp guage with a 160 thermo and fans tuned in an it'll read 170, 180, 175, 160, or whatever it's at, but the stock guage jumps right to almost 210 once the car runs for a few minutes and sits there. the stock guages are crap and aren't accurate at all. they're pretty much just a dummy light with a pointer i guess you could say.
