Hypertech 160* in mine. It runs 180-185 with the fans reset, nearly all 160* thermostats in these cars do the same thing.

Of course, that's what lets the coolant circulate. It's closed until it reaches 160* then it opens allowing coolant to flow through.

I have a 160, but wouldn't do it again - if you can lower the fan on/off temps. My stock 01 tstat according to the owners manual was already 180 (stamped 86*C on the inside).

Check the owners manual/stock tstat to see (for '01). A 160 or 180 doesn't mean you'll run at that temp. My fans are set to 184/175 and 194/185 (really low) and even w/o running the AC see them switch on and off on my LEDs in warm weather.

No, those temps are MUCH lower than stock fan settings - that's where I reprogrammed them. Guess what I'm trying to say is the car in hot weather will run at the fan temp settings, regardless of a 20 degree change in the mechanical tstat.

I have the hypertech 160 as well. It worked flawlessly in my 98 z28 and in my C5.

I would recommend the 160 and changing the fan settings. If you only change the fan settings, you run the chance of burning out your fan motors prematurely. They actually do work in tandem; the fans only come on when the airflow over the radiator is not sufficient to maintain the proper temperature. By lowering the temperature that the thermostat opens, you allow the radiator to start doing its natural radiation work sooner.
I have been running a Hypertech 160 (~20) for about 8 years now.
