HOW DIFFICULT TO INSTALL GAS TANK???
I have to install a new tank on my 00 Z28, and the dealer was quoting $515 for the install
Please let me know what is involved and should i just do the work myself if they are gonna charge me that much!
Thanks
Sean

Haven't done it on one of these cars.. but it can't be all that bad. To main issues would be to run it as dry as possible to lower it carefull and make sure everything is properly disconnected.

It's easy
On a 99+ it's real easy because the filler neck is rubber unlike the 98's which have a fixed steel neck.
Can be done in a couple hours on stands.
Try to run the tank almost empty, makes it much easier to lift/hold the tank.
rasie the rear of the car
drop the muffler and over axle pipe
remove heat shields
remove upper and lower panhard bars
disconnect all lines
unplug the harness
remove screw on filler neck bracket
remove bolts on tank straps
that's the major stuff

Re: HOW DIFFICULT TO INSTALL GAS TANK???
Dealer already dropped the existing faulty and leaking tank... so all i will need to do is put in the new one. So its pretty much a straightforward install eh?
Good to hear...
Overcharging bastards...

Re: HOW DIFFICULT TO INSTALL GAS TANK???
Try this one on for size. Cost to have the local Pontiac dealer install a timing set and water pump on my wifes Grand Am (Quad 4) = $1300. Did it myself for $230 including special tools. Thats the highest hourly wage I've ever made in my life.

I agree that it's not bad at all. Be thankful that you don't have a '98. As mentioned, the filler neck is fixed steel, and it's a major PITA to work with! Your tank should be lighter as well since it's not steel like the '98's. Just have plenty of kitty litter around in case you spill some gas.

C'mon guys, the steel filler neck isn't that hard to deal with It just takes some wiggling and creative angles to get it in...
Replacing the fuel tank isn't too difficult.

Re: HOW DIFFICULT TO INSTALL GAS TANK???
Hey George,(or anyone)
I am ready to drop my 98's tank for a fuel pump upgrade. Can I get the tank out with the car simply sitting on jackstands or do I have to have a lift?
Thanks
