Default Exhaust Manifold Bolts...What Size????

I asked a couple people if LS1 exhaust manifold bolts were standard sbc 3/8 and the answer I got was yes....So I ordered ARP header bolts for sbc and received them today and they dont fit. The stockers look like fine thread and they are metric. Anyone know what size they are and are they fine or course thread? TIA

I figured out what size they are....8mmx1.25 and they are 1 3/16 long...ARP doesnt make any bolts this size but they do offer studs...Now I just have to decide if I want to run studs, stock bolts, or those POS stage 8 bolts...flip a coin I guess...

Dave...

Whats the problem with Stage 8 locking bolts? I was considering those, but, if there are problems, please let us know.

I just ordered some stock replacements. Just anti-sieze them and everything should be fine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Default LSx exhaust manifold bolts

For LSx motors, they are M8 1.25 x 30mm....at least that's the size I need for my 08 Suburban 5.3. Ihad to get mine at True Value because Home Depot didn't have much of a selection of metric stuff and what they did have was more expensive than it should have been. Also, just an FYI the metric equivalent to what folks call grade 8 bolts in standard is metric 10.9. They are the best quality as far as I can tell. I got them to use on the engine cradle I bought from Jegs to hold my LSx motor. Overkill I know, but the Chinese bolts that came with the cradle had me a little concerned. If I ever put an engine and tranny on that cradle I'll replace all the hardware that came with it as a cheap insurance policy.

Is 18 years a necro thread record for the forum?

I look at this like it took 18 years to get a decent answer... thread diameter, pitch, overall length, AND strength grading. That's probably also a record.
